We had the pleasure of presenting the results of our nutrient impairment study of Lake Cypress Springs at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Surface Water Quality Monitoring workshop. This was the very first nutrient impairment study in Texas. The results suggest that the high pH impairment in the reservoir is driven by primary productivity. Although chlorophyll-a and pH were not strongly correlated, this may be due to sampling at 0.3-meter below the surface rather than using depth integrated sampling methods. However, using dissolved oxygen percent saturation as a surrogate for algae, this parameter strongly correlated with pH throughout the diel studies. Some of those correlations were as high as 1.00 and averaged around 0.9 at all stations. The results of this study along with two other special studies are available at: https://lnkd.in/ggZUwGj7 We also assisted with training TCEQ and Clean Rivers Program partners on measuring flow using the SonTek - a Xylem Brand FlowTracker 2 ADV.

This winter, the WMS team authored technical reports for the TCEQ’s Clean Rivers Program in the Cypress Creek, Sulphur River, and the Canadian & Red River basins. These reports included a review of recent water quality data, current and draft assessments of standards, statistical analysis of historical data, and evaluated the effects of drought and flood cycles on water quality. These reports, in total, consisted of over 155K words (but who’s counting) and nearly 600 pages. All reports have recently been approved by TCEQ for publishing. The Xylem Environmental Solutions team just wrapped up an amazing roadshow in San Marcos, Texas! Attendees got hands-on with SonTek instruments like the RS5, M9, and FlowTracker-ADV, learning to collect discharge data. They also explored both manual and automated methods for gathering comprehensive data on discharge, water quality, and bathymetry. We were happy to have representatives from local and regional water monitoring agencies, a few to include the Lower Colorado River Authority, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, City of Austin Watershed Protection Department, International Boundary & Water Commission, and Texas Water Resources Institute. A high-five to our team members: Kevin Labbe, Lisa Landry, Diego Davis, and Chris Iarossi. And a special thanks to Randy Rushin, Vice President & Founder of Water Monitoring Solutions Inc., for his insightful presentation on "Texas Water Woes: Solving the Lone Star State's Aquatic Challenges with ADCP Data Insights." #XylemRoadshow #ADCP #SonTekRoadshows #WaterQuality #DataCollection #TexasWater
