Seattle’s waterfront was gleaming against the clear, crisp, winter sky last night. It’s looking spectacular and it’s only going to get better when fully complete later this year.

One more time! My thanks to the Bellevue Downtown Association for the invitation to provide the keynote for their Annual Celebration. Hundreds of business and community leaders attended to reflect on recent accomplishments and build excitement for upcoming civic projects and initiatives. It was timely to share Waterfront Park's history and what it took (and still takes!) to deliver on this transformational, world class civic space for the community. Ultimately, it was strategic, steady leadership, a ton of grit and tenacity, and a commitment to public/ private partnerships over a 15-year span. This includes the role of Friends of Waterfront Park, as the dynamic non-profit. It’s all worth it! Seattle and Bellevue are closely tied together in our regional success. Here's to our shared joy, celebration and pride as we prepare for Grand Opening!

Waterfront Park isn’t just a place—it’s a story woven with the knowledge, art, and traditions of Coast Salish people. Naturalist and author David B. Williams toured the park with Quinault Indian Nation enrolled member Owen Oliver, who helped inform and shape Overlook Walk's design. From clam gardens to basket-weave patterns, every detail connects land, water, and people. 🌊🌿 Read David's blog about his visit: https://lnkd.in/giNwDpZt #ICYMI, check out David's new book, Seattle Walks: https://lnkd.in/gVuMpFAP #WaterfrontParkSeattle #SeattleParks

It’s not often one hears your #SmallBusiness gives “abuela energy”—and it's a compliment. Café Calaveras founder and owner Clarissa Griego takes it as an example of how she brings a little of home and belonging to every customer she meets. So whether you’ve grabbed a cup at Pier 62 this winter or are waiting to hear where her new brick-and-mortar shop will be, read our Q&A with Clarissa: https://lnkd.in/gphzNQp9 #WaterfrontParkSeattle #FriendsOfWaterfrontPark #DowntownIsYou

Mayor Harrell, City and Community Leaders Celebrate Groundbreaking of Seattle Waterfront’s Bell Street Improvements Project This week, Mayor Harrell joined the City of Seattle’s Office of the Waterfront, Councilmember Bob Kettle and community leaders to celebrate the start of construction on the Bell Street Improvements project, between Elliott Avenue and 1st Avenue. As part of the City’s Waterfront Seattle Program, the project will improve access for people walking and biking between Belltown and the 20-acre Waterfront Park, creating a more active, green and safe space. Of the $806 million being invested in the total Waterfront Park project, $5.2 million is supporting the Bell Street Improvement Project. “Today we celebrate an exciting milestone as we break ground on one of the final parts of our reimagined world-class waterfront, seamlessly connected to our downtown,” said Mayor Bruce Harrell. “Downtown is powered by people, and re-imagining public space is core to our Downtown Activation Plan. The new and improved pedestrian and bicycle connections between Belltown and the waterfront are crucial to increasing foot-traffic, providing benefits for community members and local businesses, and creating safer routes for cyclists traveling throughout downtown. These improvements reflect the community’s vision of what Belltown wants and needs. We are one step closer to realizing our vision of our waterfront and a stronger downtown.” https://lnkd.in/gBquGpMy
