WaterRising Institute through the WaterWoman Project continues to lead on gender equality and workforce development and training for women in water. During United Nations General Assembly we had a meeting with Water.org on a potential partnership for the WaterWoman Project in India and possibly Peru/Brazil. Water.org sees the opportunity for gender equality and workforce training and development for women. The WaterRising Institute kicked off International women's month with the WaterWoman Project Roundtable in India. We hosted the roundtable with Esri India in Delhi with an extraordinary group of professionals from the private, public and philanthropic sectors. This was crucial in identifying the barriers in achieving gender equality, gaps in data and research in terms of skilling in the water sector along with the crisis in workforce development in water and climate globally. We know that water forms the basis of agriculture and other such industries in India and women are the solution to the aging water workforce and to overall economic empowerment. Earlier on Feb 19th, we had a great kick start to the project in the UK in alignment with UN Women's Empowerment Principles at the International Reception hosted by British Water. Water needs her voice and we strongly believe this can be achieved by: 1. Private sector utilities coming forward and making a commitment to WEPs 2. Leveraging existing public sector skill building programs for training young women in GIS thereby creating a pipeline of women workforce in water sector 3. Building water women tribes regionally for seeking safe space, mentorship and networked support. Which includes men who are retiring to also mentor young men supporting the transfer of knowledge in the water sector. 4. Data and research on gendered analysis of water sector  5. Preparing the systems for welcoming diversity by gender sensitisation training programs for both men and women. We are building on the movement and momentum and hope to keep going. We just had a meeting here on 10 Downing Street for the Water Woman Project in partnership with British Water. We met with Myles Stacey OBE, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Education. In the next five years, 50% of the workforce will be at retirement age, particularly in the UK. We have nobody in that pipeline. So more to come from the team here at WaterRising! We are thrilled to announce that British Water has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with WaterRising Institute. This partnership marks a significant step forward in our collective efforts to address the global water crisis through a gender-inclusive lens. The primary focus of this MOU is the WaterWoman Project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at accelerating gender parity in water management. Recognizing the urgent need for a gender-inclusive, water-positive approach, the WaterWoman Project seeks to drive meaningful change in the way we manage our water resources. As part of this partnership, British Water is committed to engaging its staff and members in the WaterWoman Project stakeholder coalition. By aligning with the Women’s Empowerment Principles Transparency and Accountability Framework for gender equality, this partnership aims to foster a culture of inclusivity and equality within the UK water sector.
