Farming in an Ableist Society: Reimagining Accessibility in Agriculture Farming has historically been an ableist field, with physically demanding work and limited consideration for accessibility. What happens when traditional expectations exclude individuals with disabilities who still want to farm? Wildseeds Fund is proud to spotlight its 2024 grantee, Not Our Farm, as they host a critical teach-in on building more inclusive and accessible farms. Led by accessibility and inclusion consultant Kristie Cabrera, the session will cover essential strategies for advancing disability justice in agriculture. This partnership celebrates the transformative power of storytelling and design to center communities often left out of mainstream narratives. Rock Steady Farm’s work exemplifies the very values that inspired The Semilla Collection. Since 2015, they have combined sustainable farming practices with a commitment to equity and food justice. By creating spaces where queer, trans, Black, Indigenous, and people of color (QTBIPOC) farmers can thrive, they address systemic barriers and build a foundation for food sovereignty in the Hudson Valley, NYC, and beyond. Their storytelling efforts, including Pollinate, amplify the voices of QTBIPOC farmers and document the resilience of communities historically excluded from agriculture and food systems.
