As part of WUSA's dedication to leading progression in agriculture, a learnership programme for deaf individuals made an enormous impact on both the learners, and the teams of Villa Crop Protection. “This positive experience has encouraged us to consider repeating the programme in future, which will foster a greater sense of integration and diversity in our organisation,” said Malanie Brits, Human Resources Manager of WinField United SA.

Understanding and managing our carbon footprint is a critical component of our sustainability strategy. By implementing renewable energy solutions and monitoring our energy consumption, we aim to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future. In 2023, WUSA began understanding its carbon emissions to identify areas for impact, improve efficiencies, and explore opportunities for low-carbon benefits to growers. The greenhouse gas baseline inventory for the fiscal year ending in 2023 was developed, aiming to align with the Greenhouse Gas Corporate Standard principles: Completeness, Consistency, Accuracy and Transparency. #leadingprogressioninagriculture

The Stellenbosch University Chair in Plant Health programme is sponsored by WinField United SA and plays a pivotal role in advancing agricultural science by supporting the training of a new generation of agricultural scientists, upskilling practitioners in the agri-sector through relevant and accredited short courses and provides leadership development opportunities. One of our pillars that we build a sustainable future on, is investing in people - knowledge transfer, employee wellness and of course, actively supporting our communities, especially those in need. Through a recent internal drive, our IT manager Brendan Williams, got the opportunity to donate towards a charity of his choice. Brendan decided to support JUST CARE, an after-school care facility in the coastal town of Hermanus, where children are looked after and receive meals. "JUST CARE is a Public Benefit Organisation. There are approximately 100 children registered and a long waiting list which is a true sign that there is simply not enough of these facilities available to the community."
