As part of WUSA's dedication to leading progression in agriculture, a learnership programme for deaf individuals made an enormous impact on both the learners, and the teams of Villa Crop Protection. “This positive experience has encouraged us to consider repeating the programme in future, which will foster a greater sense of integration and diversity in our organisation,” said Malanie Brits, Human Resources Manager of WinField United SA.

Understanding and managing our carbon footprint is a critical component of our sustainability strategy. By implementing renewable energy solutions and monitoring our energy consumption, we aim to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future. In 2023, WUSA began understanding its carbon emissions to identify areas for impact, improve efficiencies, and explore opportunities for low-carbon benefits to growers. The greenhouse gas baseline inventory for the fiscal year ending in 2023 was developed, aiming to align with the Greenhouse Gas Corporate Standard principles: Completeness, Consistency, Accuracy and Transparency. #leadingprogressioninagriculture

Thank you AgriSA for hosting the valuable Green Horizons Congress - platform where leaders in the agricultural sector of South Africa got together and collaborated for a sustainable future. "It's really important for us to be part of this discussion, to play a role within what AgriSA has managed to do over the last 120 years, and to make a contribution. Well, there's no question that farming is evolving very quickly. Things are changing. Farmers are facing lots of challenges already today, but if I look into the crystal ball for the future, it's just going to become more complex. And it's going to be driven by things like global warming, access to finance, changing consumer behaviours. And there's no way that farmers will be able to deal with this unless they embrace technology", Jan Vermaak, CEO: WinField United SA Watch here: https://lnkd.in/eFf3a69g #leadingprogressioninagriculture

Jan Vermaak, CEO WinField United SA, at the Agri SA Green Horizons Congress, "Firstly, on behalf of WUSA, I would like to raise a glass to AgriSA for reaching an incredible milestone—120 years of leadership and collaboration. When we have a look around this room tonight, it is filled with leaders. But leadership doesn’t mean going at it alone. Leadership means collaboration. We need everyone - commodity organisations, government bodies, the private sector, research institutions, and, of course, the growers, to work together. If there’s one thing that we as South Africans know how to do well, it’s how to pull together. Whether it’s helping a neighbour mend a fence, pulling a bakkie from the mud or hosting a rugby braai, collaboration is in our DNA. In the eyes of the world, we are a small country, but our agriculture has a global footprint, all thanks to collaboration and determination." Congratulations again Agri SA on a successful congress! #leadingprogressioninagriculture

One of our pillars that we build a sustainable future on, is investing in people - knowledge transfer, employee wellness and of course, actively supporting our communities, especially those in need. Through a recent internal drive, our IT manager Brendan Williams, got the opportunity to donate towards a charity of his choice. Brendan decided to support JUST CARE, an after-school care facility in the coastal town of Hermanus, where children are looked after and receive meals. "JUST CARE is a Public Benefit Organisation. There are approximately 100 children registered and a long waiting list which is a true sign that there is simply not enough of these facilities available to the community."
