The Voice of the Fixed Wireless and Fiber Broadband Industry.
About us
WISPA represents the interests of the evolving Internet service provider ecosystem: innovative entrepreneurial providers of fixed wireless and fiber broadband solutions to consumers, businesses, first responders and community anchor institutions. WISPs bring critical Internet access to millions of Americans in unserved and underserved rural, suburban and urban areas of the country, quickly and affordably, offering cost-effective, competitive and innovative service options where they did not previously exist. Our mission is to help small local innovators and entrepreneurs usher in the next wave of evolving connectivity solutions through a strong, vibrant, and participatory WISP community; promote state-of-the-art industry standards, technology and education; and advocate sound public policy which encourages investment, development and deployment of high-speed broadband to all Americans, no matter where they live. In short, WISPA seeks to build an environment where ISPs flourish, customers are happy, and communities grow through robust 21st century connectivity and competition.

“Proposals to significantly increase power levels for CBRS Devices (CBSDs) and significantly relax emission limits across the band would transform CBRS into yet another high-power, macro cellular band,” say the groups in a letter to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr. They say such changes “would fundamentally modify CBRS licenses and undermine the Commission’s bipartisan vision for CBRS as a lower-power, small-cell band that supports broad access and numerous applications.” WISPA is a leading member of this coalition. https://lnkd.in/gmuuUhEV

Got a win here with a letter from TX Comptroller Glenn Hegar to Sen. Ted Cruz, recommending important changes to BEAD. This makes two similar letters (TX and LA) in as many weeks. WISPA played a role in seeing this through (both states). More will follow. Hegar's letter is good, especially regarding reducing non-telecom policy in the program, which he terms "certain 'nonessential' requirements [that] exceed the program's original intent and unnecessarily complicate its implementation." There is significant, real momentum here for BEAD to change in a way that does not threaten wasteful overbuilding and allows those who want to access its opportunities to more ably do so. As more Red States ask for modifications - and they will - this lends further credence to the argument that BEAD is not going to be canceled outright, but modified in a way that promotes quick, cost-effective entry into truly unserved marketplaces, and in a manner which promotes access to it by smaller players. More to come... https://lnkd.in/eeWNCw2d

“There’s going to be more pressure than ever to get workers over the next two-to-four years. So, WISPs will have to figure out new compensation or benefits packages to attract workers; innovate new pipelines of talent; employ apprenticeship or scholarship programs; develop bootcamp training or similar programs to skill the un- or under-skilled,” he concluded. “In short, WISPs recognize that they will have to more aggressively address labor in their business plans if they want to grow and serve their communities.” https://lnkd.in/dBR8p2yB Diana Goovaerts Fierce Network #WISP #Labor
