The Universe Is My Limit: This Student Is Helping Rewrite the Rules in Aerospace Engineering In a field where women make up just 15% of the workforce, Madison Newbell is breaking barriers and redefining possibilities. "Being a double minority in my field means I often have to work harder to prove my worth," Madison shares, reflecting on the challenges she has faced as a woman of color in aerospace engineering. Madison’s journey began at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where she switched her focus from astrophysics to aerospace engineering, inspired by her aptitude and the potential to make a significant impact. She has since gained hands-on experience working on rockets at Masten Space Systems and exploring policy insights at the FAA, two transformative internships that have propelled her toward her goals. Her aspirations extend far beyond the stars—she dreams of becoming an astronaut, launching her own aerospace company, and creating a nonprofit to address humanitarian needs. Madison’s story serves as a reminder of the resilience and brilliance women bring to STEM fields, despite systemic challenges.
