🌍 Did you know that Woods Hole Group’s parent company, CLS Group (Collecte Localisation Satellites), is playing a crucial role in the world-renowned Vendée Globe race? The Vendée Globe is one of the most extreme challenges in the world of sailing, a solo, non-stop race around the globe that puts sailors to the ultimate test. As they navigate treacherous waters, including the icy expanse of the Southern Ocean, skippers face colossal waves, fierce winds, and the looming threat of icebergs. 🛰️ This is where CLS Group comes in. As the official supplier of the Vendée Globe, CLS has been monitoring the race from space since the very beginning. Their teams analyze satellite data in real-time to detect icebergs that could potentially threaten the skippers' route. Through their partnership with the European Space Agency - ESA and the Centre National d'Études Spatiales, CLS uses advanced technology, like the Sentinel-1A satellite and the SWOT altimetry satellite, to track these ice giants and ensure the safety of the sailors as they race across the globe. By leveraging cutting-edge space technology, CLS is helping to protect these adventurers and push the boundaries of innovation, all while supporting the world's most challenging race! 🏁 #CLSGroup #WoodsHoleGroup #VendeeGlobe #Innovation #SatelliteTechnology #SpaceExploration #Sailing #IcebergDetection #SafetyAtSea #ESA #CNES #STEM #MarineTechnology #GlobalRace

🌊 Restoring Beach Access at Long Nook: Woods Hole Group's Role in a Community-Driven Solution 🌊 Long Nook Beach in Truro is known for its wild beauty and scenic bluffs, but in 2024, erosion forced its closure due to unsafe conditions. Access to this beloved beach has been a critical concern for the community — but thanks to an innovative approach, there’s now a path forward. 🚶♀️ A New Way Down the Bluff Woods Hole Group, in collaboration with town officials and the Center for Coastal Studies, has been working on a sustainable solution. Their fifth design alternative proposes a path that winds down the bluff — minimizing environmental impact and avoiding the loss of crucial parking spaces. This design reflects the natural flow already seen in informal paths created by visitors. 📐 Engineering Expertise in Action Led by coastal engineer Mitchell Buck, P.E., Woods Hole Group conducted: ✅ Topographic Surveys to map the steep terrain. ✅ Resource Assessments of the wetland and coastal environments to ensure minimal disruption. ✅ Creative Design Solutions to maintain parking capacity while restoring safe access to the beach. 💡 What’s Next? With community support, Truro’s Select Board authorized Woods Hole Group to move forward with Alternative 5. The next step is securing a special permit from the Cape Cod National Seashore, allowing construction to begin in March 2025 — just in time for the summer beach season. At Woods Hole Group, we’re committed to designing solutions that balance community needs, safety, and coastal resilience. This project is a perfect example of that mission in action. 📣 Join the Conversation! How do we balance beach access with coastal conservation? Let us know your thoughts in the comments. 🔗 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e-iHZ5x8 #CoastalEngineering #SustainableDesign #BeachAccess #EnvironmentalSolutions #WoodsHoleGroup #CommunityResilience #CapeCod #ErosionManagement
