  • Understanding the hunger crisis in Sudan in 2025 The situation in Sudan is more than a humanitarian crisis - it's a reflection of systemic failures. this modest investigation of data from fews.net guides us through the worsening food insecurity, from warning signs in 2018 to the risk of devastating famine in 2024. 🚨 What you'll discover: How conflict, inflation and record floods have turned food insecurity into a catastrophe. The impact of blocked trade routes and humanitarian constraints - only 10% of people in need received aid in key regions. The heroic work of organisations such as the World Food Programme (WFP) , and why humanitarian aid will not be enough to break the cycle of hunger. 💡 Our call to action: Advocate for neutral humanitarian corridors to deliver immediate aid. Support ceasefires and conflict resolution to restore stability. Invest in disaster-resistant infrastructure and community-based solutions to rebuild sustainable food systems. This presentation is a tribute to the resilience of the Sudanese people and a reminder that sustainable change requires tackling the root causes: peace, equity and climate resilience. Let's move beyond emergency interventions and work towards a future where food insecurity is history, not a headline: everyone can contribute. • Today's young people are tomorrow's leaders, and their vision of the future of food is one of sustainability, equity and resilience. After 16 days of advocacy, the young people of YouthShare have come together to demand a food system that is fair and accessible to all. We can no longer ignore the glaring inequalities in access to food - while some worry about their daily meals, millions struggle simply to find enough to eat. It's a shocking contrast, but we believe that change is possible. The future of food must be one of healthy, nutritious food for everyone, regardless of where they live or their social status. Young people are calling for a transformation of global food systems, where technology, sustainability and innovation are at the forefront, and where food becomes a fundamental right for all. Young people are ready to lead the charge for a future where hunger is eradicated, food systems are sustainable and everyone has access to the food they deserve. Join us, let's work together to build a more resilient, inclusive and just future. • 🌍 Resilience on Food Systems In Africa, building resilient food systems is critical to combating climate change, economic shocks, and health crises. With 256 million people undernourished as of 2020 (FAO), addressing food system vulnerabilities is an urgent priority. Key Insights: 🔸 Climate Change Impact: Droughts and floods disrupt agriculture, as seen in the 2022 Horn of Africa crisis. 🔸 Supply Chain Vulnerabilities: Poor infrastructure and trade restrictions exacerbate food insecurity. 🔸 Economic Challenges: Fertilizer prices increased by 45% in 2022, straining smallholder farmers. Solutions in Action: 💡 Climate-resilient farming projects in Kenya have increased yields by diversifying crops. 💡 Investments by the African Development Bank have reduced post-harvest losses in West Africa by 30%. 💡 Programs like Ethiopia’s PSNP provide food security for over 8 million people annually. Future Directions: 📌 Promote sustainable agricultural practices like agroforestry and organic farming. 📌 Invest in robust infrastructure and digital platforms to minimize food loss. 📌 Advocate for inclusive policies and social protection systems to safeguard vulnerable populations. 🌟 We can strengthen Africa’s food systems to ensure sustainable, inclusive, and resilient growth. Let’s collaborate to build a brighter, food-secure future for the African continent! #Sustainability #FoodSecurity #Africa #Resilience #ClimateChange #Agriculture #SustainableDevelopment #Innovation

• 🌍 Funding Food Justice  In Africa, where agriculture supports over 60% of the population, food justice isn’t just a necessity—it’s a pathway to equitable growth and sustainable development. 🛤️ At the heart of this effort are two critical players: 1️⃣ The World Bank, driving large-scale systemic change, and 2️⃣ Microfinance institutions, empowering communities at the grassroots. Here’s how they’re making an impact: 🔹 The World Bank: Funded programs like the Agriculture Productivity Program for Southern Africa have boosted crop yields by up to 20%, providing farmers with better seeds and irrigation systems. Climate-smart agriculture initiatives protect livelihoods and promote sustainable farming practices, impacting millions of smallholder farmers across the continent. Emergency funds during crises ensure food supply chains stay resilient, benefiting over 12 million people during droughts and floods in 2023 alone. 🔹 Microfinance Institutions: By providing small loans and financial training, microfinance has enabled 70% of women borrowers to reinvest in agriculture and improve food security in their communities. Innovative solutions like mobile money platforms (e.g., M-Pesa, Orange Money, etc...) have connected over 55 million farmers to credit, markets, and information, breaking barriers in rural areas. Group lending models have improved repayment rates and fostered stronger community ties. 💡 When macro-scale funding meets grassroots empowerment, the results are transformational. A newly built road funded by the World Bank becomes a lifeline for farmers supported by microfinance, enabling them to sell produce at fair prices and reduce food waste. 🌱 The future of food justice lies in collaboration. With continued investment, we can create a world where every African farmer has the resources they need to thrive, and no community is left behind. 👉 Join the conversation on food justice and sustainable development. #FoodJustice #Sustainability #Agriculture #Africa #WorldBank #Microfinance #DevelopmentEconomics #ClimateAction

  • Every year, 37% of food production in sub-Saharan Africa is lost after harvest, representing a staggering $4 billion annually. While 100 million Africans face hunger, perfectly edible food is wasted due to insufficient infrastructure, strict aesthetic standards, and inefficiencies across the supply chain. This isn’t just an economic loss; it’s a moral, social, and environmental crisis. Food waste contributes to 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, making it the third largest polluter after China and the United States. The solution is within our reach: ✅ Invest in cold chains and transport infrastructure. ✅ Redistribute surplus food to vulnerable communities. ✅ Adopt circular economy practices to transform waste into resources. ✅ Rethink consumer behavior to embrace “imperfect” but edible products. Every grain matters. Together, we can reduce food waste, feed millions, and build a sustainable food future for Africa. #YouthShare16D'#ActForFoodJustice #FoodWaste #Sustainability #Africa #CircularEconomy #ZeroHunger #UNEP #WFP #FAO #IFAD #WorldFoodProgramme #SDGs

  • 🌍 Driving African Innovation Toward Sustainable Food Africa’s population has reached 1.5 billion and is projected to grow to 2.4 billion by 2050. With this rapid population increase comes the urgent challenge of ensuring food security amidst climate change, resource scarcity, and land degradation. Agriculture, the backbone of many Sub-Saharan economies, is under immense pressure, with productivity declining by 34% since the 1960s. However, there is a growing wave of hope. African-led innovations are transforming agriculture into a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable sector. From startups like Twiga Foods in Kenya, improving supply chains and reducing post-harvest losses, to Farmcrowdy in Nigeria, connecting smallholder farmers with investors, and Hello Tractor in Nigeria, which uses IoT to make tractor services more accessible—these ventures are showing the power of technology to revolutionize Africa's food systems. Moreover, scientists are developing climate-resilient crops through advanced breeding techniques and biotechnological interventions. These crops are specifically designed to thrive in extreme conditions such as prolonged droughts, heatwaves, floods, and pest infestations. By improving the genetic makeup of these plants, researchers are not only increasing yields but also ensuring that crops can withstand the unpredictable effects of climate change. This innovation is a critical step toward safeguarding food production in regions most vulnerable to climate shocks, offering farmers the tools they need to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. 🚜 What’s Next? To truly unlock Africa's agricultural potential, we must continue investing in scalable solutions, promote inclusive policies, and empower local communities. The future of food security in Africa relies on fostering innovation, enhancing efficiency, and building resilience to climate shocks. Let’s support African innovators and work towards a sustainable and prosperous future for all. #SustainableDevelopment #FoodSecurity #AgricultureInnovation #Africa #ClimateSmartFarming #AgricultureTransformation #TechForGood
