Early connections last a lifetime.
About us
We're hiring! ZERO TO THREE is a national nonprofit organization that informs, trains and supports professionals, policymakers and parents in their efforts to improve the lives of infants and toddlers. Neuroscientists have documented that our earliest days, weeks and months of life are a period of unparalleled growth when trillions of brain cell connections are made. Research and clinical experience also demonstrate that health and development are directly influenced by the quality of care and experiences a child has with his parents and other adults. That is why at ZERO TO THREE our mission is to ensure all babies and toddlers have a strong start in life. We know that as babies, the way we are held, talked to and cared for teaches us about who we are and how we are valued. This profoundly shapes who we will become. Early experiences set a course for a lifelong process of discovery about ourselves and the world around us. Simply put, early experiences matter. We encourage you to learn more about very young children, early development and the work of ZERO TO THREE by exploring our site. Explore opportunities at zerotothree.org/careers

The Fourth of July is often a day when we celebrate with family and friends. There are moments when they can’t wait to wrap their arms around toddlers for a big "hello" bear hug. Consent is for everyone. Children should have a choice so it’s clear that they get to decide what works for them. Read more: https://bit.ly/3Xy156u

Teachers this year saw the effects of the pandemic’s stress and isolation on young students: Some can barely speak, sit still or even hold a pencil. It’s too early to know whether young children will experience long-term effects from the pandemic, but researchers say there are reasons to be optimistic. For many students, simply being in school is the first step. Did you know housing insecurity starting from infancy can lead to poorer adolescent health? Housing is widely recognized as a social determinant of health and in children, housing insecurity has been associated with a variety of negative physical and mental health outcomes. A new study in the American Academy of Pediatrics Journal reveals that teens who experienced housing insecurity earlier in life report worse health outcomes. Rahil Briggs, National Director of HealthySteps, highlights that according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, shelter is as vital as breathing and water for children. The absence of secure housing can cause stress that affects their health for years and early childhood experiences have a lasting impact on long-term well-being. For more on this, check out the NPR article by Rhitu Chatterjee, also featuring insights from HealthySteps partner sites, Hemen Muleta, MD with The Children's Hospital at MONTEFIORE MEDICAL CENTER and Carol Duh-Leong with NYU Langone Health: https://n.pr/3xvZh3B

Babies are by nature social creatures. They actively seek out the human face as well as interaction and communication with other people. The role of parents and caregivers is so important because during infancy babies form secure attachments — a deep emotional bond in which the infant seeks and maintains closeness with a specific person.
