YOUR FUTURE TEAM

As part of TCEQ’s Office of Waste, you would contribute to agency efforts to regulate the generation, treatment, storage, and disposal of various wastes and the cleanup of contaminated sites. See details about what we do.

This position is a member of our Radioactive Materials Division.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience making subsurface geologic interpretations and interpreting geologic maps, cross-sections, well completion reports, aquifer or reservoir models, and other geologic documents.
  • Experience with hydrogeology, groundwater, subsurface contaminants, movement and remediation of groundwater, &/or oil and/or gas exploration and/or production.

Here's What You'll Be Doing...

  • Conduct geoscientific, and regulatory evaluations of advanced applications, licenses, reports, and plans pertaining to waste management and fluid injection; determine compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in policy and team development, such as maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidance document development, and streamlining work processes.
  • Provide senior level geoscience expertise to team/section/division and agency staff. Provide recommendations to staff in the review and evaluation of projects with geologic and hydrogeologic conditions.
  • Assist customers regarding the program through verbal communication, correspondence, and Public Information Requests (PIRs).

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) plus four years of full-time geoscientific experience beyond licensure.

OR

Nine years of full-time geoscientist experience and must obtain Geoscientist licensure within twelve (12) months of hire date by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG).

  • A graduate degree in a geoscience discipline may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution allowed.

OR

Two years of full-time TCEQ experience as a Geoscientist II.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Geoscientist III state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Geoscientist III series.
