The cost of stress

- I'm certain it won't come as a surprise to any of you that we live in a stressful world. Even before we were faced with the pandemic, the cost of stress to corporate America was a $500 billion problem each and every year. Why does it cost so much? Stress undermines our productivity in ways that are almost impossible to accurately account for and undermines our ability to get along with, connect with others. It also has a serious impact on our health and wellbeing and is greatly responsible for the spiraling healthcare costs in this country. Depending upon what study you look at, you'll find that stress is estimated to account for 60 to 90% of all primary care physician visits. The costs are astronomical with regards to dollars and cents. The cost with regards to our experience of life, it's hard to even begin to account for what that looks like. We find ourselves drained. We find ourselves dry. We find life lacking meaning when we're stressed and so as a result, our ability to tap into inspiration is significantly diminished by our stress and if we can't and don't know how to let go of our own stress, we can't generate inspiration within ourselves and therefore, we won't be able to generate it within our teams and those we work with.
