- Your nervous system controls how quickly you can move from a state of fight, flight, and freeze to state of peace. Therefore, it's very important to know how to be able to move from this sympathetic to parasympathetic state. What controls the speed with which you can move from one to another is the strength of your cranial nerves. One of the primary nerves that is involved is something called your vagus nerve. Your vagus nerve, also known as the 10th cranial nerve, is the longest nerve in your body. It connects your brain to almost every organ in your body. And as a matter of fact, it used to be how science thought the brain operated the body, but then they realized that 80 to 90% of the communications were coming from the body up to the brain.
