Big Oil dealt blows
Oil giants sustained multiple defeats after Exxon shareholders elected two clean-energy activists as directors, and a court in the Netherlands ordered Royal Dutch Shell to cut carbon emissions faster. The Hague court also ruled the world’s fourth-biggest oil company culpable for climate change in a groundbreaking decision for the industry.
- Chevron shareholders voted to force the company to cut “Scope 3″ emissions, though without a specific target or timeframe.
- Canada's Suncor Energy also announced that it plans to cut its emissions by more than one-third, despite raising production to a new high.
