Cementing Smart Solutions 💡 One of the cement plants we collaborate with demonstrates how innovative use of slag can transform not only production processes but also sustainability metrics. This plant, constructed by a company with expertise in large-scale slag recycling, has embedded circular economy principles into its operations from the outset. By incorporating 30% mixed slag sourced from an old slag dump into its cement production, the plant has achieved remarkable results. Impact at a Glance: 👉 Carbon Footprint Reduction: By integrating slag into the cement mix, the plant has cut its CO₂ emissions by 20%—a significant step toward decarbonization in an energy-intensive industry. 👉 Waste Utilization: The slag, once considered a liability and left unused in a dump, is now a valuable resource contributing to high-performance cement. This is a powerful example of how using by-products can improve efficiency and reduce the need for traditional raw materials. By adding mixed slag to their process, the cement plant has found a smart way to handle waste and boost production. 🧐 Curious how slag could work for your business? Let’s find the right solution together! #smartscrap #slag #mixedslag #cementindustry #slagrecycling #greencement #wastetoresource #metallurgicalwaste #decarbonization #slagmanagement #alternativematerials #cement

When we tell people that we make Alternative Fuel from traditionally non-recyclable materials, they are impressed - but unless you’re in the cement production industry, it's hard to imagine what AF is or looks like. Hopefully, the video helps. This is a load of our Alternative Fuel, called LJP ReFuel™, being delivered to a Midwest cement kiln. Because it is finely shredded, the material can be blown through a piping system directly into the kiln to be burned. LJP ReFuel™ is a biogenically carbon rich alternative fuel that powers industrial boilers and kilns, reducing their reliance on fossil fuels like natural gas and coal, while dramatically lowering carbon emissions. LJP ReFuel™ meets the US EPA criteria for designation as a Non-Hazardous Secondary Material [NHSM] and is, therefore, exempt from Solid Waste Regulations. ♻ Why is Alternative Fuel so important and valuable? 2 Words - Carbon Reduction. The cement and aggregate production industries contribute up to 7% of the world’s CO2. Using Alternative Fuels [AF] like LJP ReFuel™, made from high BTU pre and post-consumer materials can reduce carbon emissions per ton of production by more than 100%. In addition, its use in cement kilns perfectly aligns with the growing desire for a circular economy solution because there is no residual waste material; everything is destroyed and becomes part of the cement product. Ideal LJP ReFuel™ material candidates include: ✅ Thin Film Wraps and Bags ✅ Flexible Plastics ✅ Pressure Sensitive Adhesives ✅ Release Liner ✅ Laminates ✅ Waxy Cardboard ✅ Automotive Trim Scrap ✅ Foams #LJP #ReFuel #AlternativeFuel #CarbonReduction #ReplaceFossilFuel

Enhancing Emissions Monitoring in Steel Mills🏭 Steel mills generate significant emissions during production, making Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) crucial for regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. These systems track key pollutants like NOx, SOx, CO, and particulate matter, helping to reduce environmental impact and meet strict emissions standards. CEMS enable steel mills to detect issues early and make real-time adjustments, ensuring compliance while achieving sustainability goals and improving air quality. By integrating these monitoring solutions, steel mills can enhance worker safety through better pollution control. At CODEL International Ltd., we offer advanced CEMS tailored for the harsh environments of steel mills. Our solutions, including the EnergyTech 301 dust monitor, provide reliable, low-maintenance monitoring that withstands high temperatures and dust levels. With real-time data and comprehensive reporting, CODEL helps steel mills optimize their processes, reduce emissions, and contribute to a more sustainable future. No more "dust in the wind". Byproduct dust, a recurring aspect of cement manufacturing, presents new opportunities as the industry moves towards alternative fuels. With sustainable fuel sources comes the need for adaptive technologies that can turn challenges - such as managing high chloride dust - into opportunities for efficiency and resource recovery. While this dust is a potential resource, it also contributes to kiln build-up and requires specific handling, highlighting the need for more innovative solutions to minimize operating costs. The ReduDust process offers an advanced response by selectively extracting chlorides and alkalis through a combination of leaching and vacuum crystallisation. This method isolates NaCl and KCl salts for reuse and thoroughly "cleans" the bypass dust, making it suitable for reintroduction into clinker production. Designed to operate on kiln waste heat, bypass dust is transformed from a costly waste product into a circular resource, optimizing both economic and environmental outcomes for cement plants. #ReduDust #bypassdustmanagement #cementengineering #sustainableproduction #alternativefuels

The Secondary Waelz Process involves the reprocessing of waste materials from the steel industry, particularly electric arc furnace dust (EAF dust), to recover valuable metals like zinc. This process is based on the fundamental Waelz Process but is specifically focused on waste management and recycling. How the Secondary Waelz Process Works: 1. Waste Collection and Preparation: - Dust and other metallic waste generated during steel production are collected. These wastes typically contain oxides of zinc, iron, lead, and other metals. - The waste is ground to an appropriate size for the process and mixed with other materials (such as limestone) that aid in the process. 2. Processing in the Furnace: - The prepared waste materials are fed into a rotary Waelz furnace that operates at high temperatures. - The furnace temperature usually ranges between 1000-1300°C. At this temperature, zinc oxide is reduced to metallic zinc by a reducing agent like carbon: [ZnO + C → Zn (g) + CO (g)] - The zinc vapor exits the furnace and reacts with oxygen during cooling to form zinc oxide dust: [ Zn (g) + O₂ → ZnO (dust)] 3. Collection of Zinc Oxide:** - The resulting zinc oxide dust is known as Waelz oxide and can be sent to zinc refining facilities to be converted into zinc metal. 4. Management of Slag: - The remaining iron-rich slag in the furnace is typically used in the construction industry or other industrial applications. This slag is referred to as Waelz slag. Advantages of the Secondary Waelz Process: - Environmental Impact Reduction: The Secondary Waelz Process improves waste management and reduces environmental impacts by reusing steel production waste. - Recovery of Valuable Metals: Recovering metals like zinc from waste materials adds economic value. - Waste Reduction:Processing waste reduces the need for storage and benefits sustainability efforts. This process is crucial for more efficient waste management and the recovery of valuable metals from industrial waste. #WaelzProcess #Pyrometallurgy #ZincRecovery #MetalRecycling #SlagTreatment #IndustrialProcesses #Steelmaking #SustainableMining #CircularEconomy #MaterialRecovery #MetallurgicalEngineering #ZincProduction #KilnOperations #MetalExtraction #ThermalProcessing #IndustrialInnovation #WasteToWealth #EnvironmentalEngineering #ResourceEfficiency #MetalWasteRecycling
