When my daughter was born, even though I was an interim HR manager in a large company, my employer did everything they could to deter parents from applying to work there. After my daughter was born, I did keeping in touch days and on one of the days my childcare provider could not reach me when I was in work. This was due to the fact it was in a quarry with no mobile signal and the staff were not allowed to use Wi-Fi calling. So no parents were reachable. I didn’t realise this was the case until I was unreachable myself. This was not ok. How could we attract parents to work for an employer who didn’t consider this an issue? I couldn’t change this issue on my own because the MD and the board of Directors was not on board. So I decided to leave and continue to grow my HR company and make a difference by consulting on flexible working for parents instead. 💪🏼 To this day, I’ve made huge waves because my clients/employers have tapped into the parental market. We’ve been able to fill roles that were difficult to fill previously as well the employers having a more flexible workforce who are more committed. This has enabled the employer to grow. Some of my clients have grown significantly by over 500% since these strategies were put in place and we’ve implemented recruitment strategies. #workingparents #hrissues #hradvice #hrsupport #hrconsultancy #hremployers #hrmanager #quarry #quarries

Recruiting strategies are constantly evolving as society changes. Today's job seekers are looking for flexible work arrangements and robust parental leave policies. The best way to think about your recruitment strategy is to ask: How can we create a culture that supports employees regardless of what's happening in their lives? A great benefit example is a breastfeeding suite for new moms. It's a win-win for mothers, their children, and their workplaces. #Recruitment #TalentAcquisition #HR

Did you know? 💭 ▪ Employees who have worked with the same employer for at least 12 months now have a legal entitlement to request flexible working arrangements. ▪ Eligible employees include parents of school-aged children, carers, persons with disabilities, those aged 55 or older, and individuals experiencing family or domestic violence, and during pregnancy. The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Act 2022 introduces crucial amendments to requests for flexible work arrangements. These changes have introduced added complexity to reviewing requests. It is essential the people who are responsible for making decisions about these matters have training about how they’re supposed to respond, particularly when demonstrating reasonable business grounds for denying a flexible work request. At Azuhr, we are increasingly seeing our clients looking to us to provide an independent review of their consideration of requests and grounds for refusal. Part 1: The Recruitment Crisis in the UK Early Years Sector Recruiting qualified staff for early years settings in the UK has become increasingly challenging. With a growing demand for childcare and stringent qualification requirements, many nurseries and childcare providers are struggling to fill vacancies. Key issues employers face include: High competition for talent: Other industries, offering better pay and less stress, attract skilled workers away from early years. Qualification barriers: The need for Level 3 qualifications or above limits the pool of available candidates. Perception of the sector: Many potential recruits see early years roles as low-status or unappealing due to high workloads and limited progression. Employers are feeling the strain, but there is hope. In Part 2, we will explore the retention challenges.

Registrations close soon for our free national webinar for regional businesses and SMEs. Having 6 years HR experience working in a regional NSW clothing manufacturing business I understand how hard it can be to hire, train and retain the right mix of people to help your business thrive, whilst supporting the communities you live in. Low unemployment rates and ongoing staffing shortages are adversely impacting regional businesses and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). However, opportunity awaits employers in an untapped talent pool of people with disability. Employing and retaining people with disability has clear benefits. Smart businesses are leading the way by confidently attracting and hiring from a wider pool of skilled candidates in their local community. You can, too. Join our upcoming JobAccess national webinar to learn about disability employment and the range of free supports available for regional businesses and SMEs. We're thrilled to have Dr. Dinesh Palipana OAM deliver the keynote address. This sounds like bad news (and for a great many employers, it definitely is) but it's also a huge opportunity for employers looking to attract top talent. If 40 percent of the workforce are dealing with sup-par benefits, then employers who offer truly enticing benefits packages are in a great position to hire and retain new talent. Would your clients like the chance to win over new hires while improving their retention rates for their existing people? This is why employee benefits are so important to the health of the company, as well as the workforce. The labor market it always going to go up and down, and offering competitive benefits as part of the overall compensation package is one way employers can help ensure that they're coming out on top with prospective hires, regardless of what's happening in the market. #EmployeeBenefits #TalentAcquisition #Talent Management #HRStrategy
