Is Your Podcast Prioritizing Value or Payments? Dustin Riechmann examines the ethical dilemma of charging guests to appear on podcasts, questioning whether prioritizing paying guests over those who bring real value serves the audience’s best interests. He emphasizes that podcast listeners come for genuine stories and insightful content, not just segments paid for by guests. For Dustin Riechmann, authenticity is key; audiences want to hear from voices that bring unique perspectives, not simply those with the ability to pay for exposure. This approach risks compromising trust and could alienate loyal listeners who expect substance over sponsored content. He suggests that focusing on value and authenticity will build stronger connections with listeners and maintain the podcast's integrity in the long run!

How are you helping your podcast listeners handle the ‘Dishwasher Problem’? Your listeners are almost always doing something else when they listen to your podcast. Have a look at the stats in the image below! Think about how long you spend putting an episode together. And if a person is listening while walking the dog, sitting in traffic or emptying the dishwasher what are they retaining? Dare I say… not a whole lot? If they are not retaining it, there is no chance they are putting it into practice. This is a huge problem with learning. Hearing something once is almost a waste of time. If a piece of content meets the Von Restorff effect (being unique and novel enough that it sticks out) then it will be remembered. If it doesn’t meet the Von Restorff criteria then most of what your listeners hear is unfortunately in one ear and out the other. Need proof? What do you truly remember from the last podcast you listened to? And if you did recall something now think - would you have ever recalled it if you were not prompted here? You would probably be on to the next thing, never to be thought about again. And so it goes for your listeners with your content. How are you helping your listeners embed the knowledge you have provided.
