As we celebrate #WorldFoodDay, we reflect on how we can transform our global food systems to support both people and the planet. 🌎 Through the One Planet Network’s Sustainable Food Systems Programme, we are tackling some of the most pressing challenges: 🍽 Reducing food loss and waste: With nearly one-third of all food produced globally lost or wasted, we are implementing strategies to reduce waste along the entire food value chain—from farm to fork. 🌱 Advancing regenerative farming practices: By promoting techniques that restore soil health, enhance water retention, and increase biodiversity. 🌿 Restoring biodiversity: We are working to reverse this trend by fostering sustainable agricultural practices that protect ecosystems and restore natural habitats. 💧 Tackling climate and pollution: From reducing emissions in food production to curbing pollution from synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, we are addressing the environmental impacts of agriculture in a holistic way. The One Planet Network Sustainable Food Systems Programme brings together governments, businesses, and civil society to build food systems that are sustainable, resilient, and inclusive. ➡ Learn More: https://lnkd.in/em4-G4Mi

This #WorldFoodDay, we're shining a spotlight on the changemakers that are helping the food sector transition to sustainable practices. Our food systems are broken - but they can be fixed when farmers, communities, governments, and industries collaborate to promote soil health, sustainable production, regenerative practices, and cutting food waste in a transformative way. Until end of October, we will highlight real-world stories and lessons from our demonstration projects across Europe, to illustrate what systemic change looks like on the ground. By connecting the dots between sustainable farming models, bridging urban-rural divides, and supporting agritech innovators, we aim to accelerate the shift toward healthier, more resilient food systems for all. #WorldFoodDay is about the right to accessible, safe, sustainable food 🌎🌍🌏 🗑 One of the biggest inefficiencies of the agri-food chain is food waste, a fast-growing problem that challenges our planetary boundaries. One-third of all globally produced food is wasted, which translates into 1.3 billion tonnes of wasted resources per year. ⛈️ Climate change is also having a huge impact on food loss and agriculture is considered one of the most vulnerable sectors due to widespread droughts and other adverse weather conditions. 👩🌾 Supporting farmers to adopt sustainable farming practices and addressing food waste across the whole food chain are two ways to help increase the resilience and sustainability of our food systems and ultimately foster long-term accessibility. Food is more than nourishment; it is central to our national identities and diversity, and as such we need to ensure equitable and fair access to all. 📑 Read our reports on: ✔ Addressing food waste in the retail sector - https://lnkd.in/etg5Gq8D ✔ Increasing climate change resilience through sustainable agricultural practices - https://lnkd.in/exvqeN4w For more information on our work in agriculture, collaborations, and opportunities, contact the CAP and Food team led by Melanie Muro at mmuro@ieep.eu. #WorldFoodDay 🌎🌍🌏 💡 Did you know that....? The world produces enough food to feed all of its 8 billion people. 🚨 But and this is a huge BUT... While 1 billion meals a day were wasted in 2022 equivalent to 132 kilograms per capita and almost 1/5 of all available food to consume (https://lnkd.in/eFgHAnZa) In the rest of the world (Numbers of 2024): 1. 733 million people (1 in 11) go hungry every day. 2. Hunger rates in Africa are especially high, with 1 out of 5 people going hungry each day. 3. 2.8 billion people around the world cannot afford a healthy diet — 35% of the global population. 4. 9 million people die from hunger-related causes every year; many are children under the age of 5. According to the Food Waste Index Report 2024, the sector where most millions of tons were wasted in 2022 was in the Households with 631M, followed by Food Services (290 M) and Retails (131 M). 🍇 🥕 Being Fruits and vegetables the category with the largest percentage of wasted mass (62%) followed by Meat (11%), Dairy (11%), and Bakery (16%). This is just the reflection of an inefficient localization of resources, it is necessary not just make people aware of this problem to create actions but incentivize stakeholders to make partnerships and supply those inefficiencies with strategies to significantly take two problems (Waste food and Hunger) at once. Sweden shows how technology and community can tackle food waste and hunger head-on! With inspiring initiatives like Too Good to Go and Karma, plus a remarkable community network that collects donations from local stores, they’re making a real impact. These efforts aren’t just local successes—they're blueprints for change that every country can learn from and replicate. #NoFoodWaste #NoHunger #SDG #Food #WorldFoodDay

🌱Embarking on a Journey Towards Sustainability: The Story Behind Biochar Global Innovations As we reflect on the inception of Biochar Global Innovations, our journey began with a deep-rooted passion for environmental stewardship and a vision for a more sustainable future. Driven by the pressing need to address the challenges of climate change, soil degradation, and food insecurity, we set out on a mission to harness the transformative power of biochar and wood vinegar. Our founding belief is rooted in the understanding that sustainable agriculture holds the key to mitigating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring food security for future generations. Our business concept revolves around creating sustainable solutions that address critical environmental issues while promoting food security, enhancing farming methods, and mitigating water and land contamination. We are committed to providing: 🌿 Food Security: By implementing biochar and wood vinegar as soil enhancers, we aim to improve agricultural productivity and ensure food security for communities worldwide. Our innovative solutions empower farmers to cultivate resilient crops in challenging environmental conditions, safeguarding against food shortages and hunger. 🌍 Legitimate Carbon Credits: Through our biochar production process, we facilitate the sequestration of carbon in the soil, effectively reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combatting climate change. As a result, we generate legitimate carbon credits that can be traded on reputable markets, incentivising sustainable practices and driving positive environmental impact. 🌱 Methane Emissions Reduction: Biochar production offers a sustainable alternative for managing organic waste, effectively reducing methane emissions associated with traditional waste disposal methods. By diverting organic matter from landfills and converting it into biochar, we mitigate the release of potent greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change mitigation efforts. 💧 Land and Water Recovery: Our initiatives extend beyond soil health to encompass the restoration and rehabilitation of degraded land and water ecosystems. Biochar and wood vinegar application improve soil structure, enhance water retention, and promote the filtration of contaminants, leading to the restoration of degraded landscapes and the protection of vital water resources. As we embark on this journey, we invite you to join us in our pursuit of sustainability, innovation, and positive impact. Together, let's create a world where nature thrives, communities prosper, and future generations inherit a planet teeming with life and opportunity. #BiocharGlobalInnovations #SustainabilityJourney #ClimateAction #SoilHealth #FoodSecurity #CommunityEmpowerment #Innovation #EnvironmentalStewardship
