⛳ Dive into our Bertoua rural-based SME Energy Survey Week. During my recent visit to Bertoua, I conducted a comprehensive survey aimed at identifying the key energy constraints impacting women-led small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating in the rural zones of Bertoua. The survey sought to gain a deeper understanding of the specific challenges these businesses face in accessing reliable and affordable energy sources, which are crucial for their day-to-day operations and growth. As we entered the interview, we encountered a very interesting young lady named Gertrude in Ndumbi, Bertoua. Gertrude, 33, owns a tailoring shop called "Point," which helps her support her younger siblings back at home. ⛳ "Gertrude shared her challenges regarding stable energy supply. On a typical day, she can produce 3 outfits using her machine, which relies on electricity. However, when a power outage occurs, it lasts for at least 3 hours, making it impossible for Gertrude to meet her daily target. In such conditions, she can only produce 1.5 outfits by pedaling the machine manually. Gertrude has found it difficult to work at night since power supply is largely unavailable during those hours, which diminishes her resistance to adopt renewable energy sources for the benefit of her business." Through detailed interviews and data collection, the assessment revealed several critical issues, including intermittent power supply, high energy costs, and limited availability of alternative energy solutions tailored to the needs of women-led , rural based SMEs. . The findings from this survey will serve as a valuable resource in informing policy decisions and targeted interventions to address the energy-related barriers hindering the success and expansion of women-led SMEs in these rural areas. The insights gained will be instrumental in guiding the development of sustainable, inclusive, and effective strategies to support the long-term viability and competitiveness of these enterprises. ⛳ Stay on the lookout for more on our September newsletter SOLAR NATION LIMITED-UGANDA The Tony Elumelu Foundation AEC African Energy Week Energy Convos UNDP The World Bank UNICEF Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Ene Leo YALI West Africa Alumni Cameroon @USAID Berkeley Energy Cameroon Corporation - BECC Proparco Asahi Pompey ONEPlanET #servingsmes #servingafricatogether #renewablenergy #ruralbasedsmes #womenledsmes #Bertoua

The solar thermal industry has been heavily dominated by male technicians due to the physical size of current products on the market. But not anymore! Simple and effective solutions are so underrated in this AI mad world =) https://lnkd.in/eZ8qPsJi
Addressing the gender gap! One of the (many!) wonderful things about the SolarisKit solar collectors is that its size and weight makes it possible for both male and female technicians to install as shown perfectly in this photo taken in Kenya. To realise the global potential of solar energy, we need as many people as possible to join the movement. We are keen and excited to do our part with the global energy transition. 🔋 #NewProject | Energy Storage for Renewable Energy Integration in India (StoREin) Project Kick-Off! India's renewable energy journey is gaining momentum, aiming for an ambitious target of 50% non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. With projections foreseeing a surge to 2380 GWh of storage capacity by 2047, energy storage systems stand as a key enabler for larger renewable energy integration and grid stability. To facilitate this transition, we are proud to announce the kick off the Indo-German project ‘Energy Storage for Renewable Energy Integration in India (StoREin) under Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). We are jointly implementing this project with our partner Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and consortium of Fraunhofer IEE, IIT Bombay, TERI and WRI. The project aims to enhance the viability of Energy Storage Systems at a grid scale level in India. The project was successfully launched in Delhi in the presence of representants from MNRE, BMWK, International Climate Initiative, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the consortium partners. During the event, the participants exchanged ideas on the project goals, how to foster collaboration among stakeholders and discussed on the pivotal role of Energy Storage in India's energy landscape. What does the project aim to achieve? ⚡️By focusing on the policy and regulatory landscape, demonstration projects, technical analysis, and research networks, the project will contribute to SDG 7, ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. 👩🏫 Under the project’s engagement in capacity building and awareness-raising, a focus is laid on SDG 5, achieving gender equality, and empowering all women and girls. This project contributes to our commitment of promoting a clean and fair renewable energy transition in India, in line with the objectives of the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (#GSDP) signed between India and Germany. The Zimbabwean government is racing against time to meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 7: affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all by 2030. 🌱 However, the race towards green energy is top-down and mostly privatised. New technology is being introduced or sold to individuals or small families, but renewable energy is not being made part of a decent life for the entire community. Researchers Ellen Fungisai Chipango (PhD) and Long Seng To have researched ways to use the communal ethic of African ubuntu, in the rollout of renewable energy. 💻 University of Johannesburg and Loughborough University #Climate
