I'm convinced that when Chris Requena gave me the rundown of why Boston New Technology (BNT) was created, he was futurecasting the arrival of amazing people like Denisa Kim, MSc who I spotlighted yesterday and today with Peter Abosede, Visionary Founder/CEO and CTO of SAMIS AI. Meeting him was one of the best Diwali I've ever received (and a few days early, thank you Parna Sarkar-Basu!) Peter is the founder of Samis AI, a cutting-edge solution for streamlining aviation maintenance and safety. Developed through his company Aviasnug, Samis AI uses AI and robotics to automate critical maintenance tasks, documentation, and diagnostics in aviation, effectively reducing human error and increasing efficiency. Peter’s experience as an aerospace engineer is evident in Samis AI’s focus on combining advanced technology with practical applications in aviation safety, addressing a significant need in the industry. Samis AI’s wearable technology enables maintenance teams to capture data in real-time and execute tasks with precision, ensuring high standards of aircraft safety and compliance. Peter’s dedication to innovation is reflected in his commitment to making aviation operations safer and more cost-effective. His background in robotics and aerospace engineering, including his work at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, has equipped him to tackle complex challenges in aircraft maintenance. The Abundance Summit will benefit greatly from Peter’s insights, as he shares how AI can transform traditional industries and provide new efficiencies in high-stakes environments like aviation. Peter’s leadership in Samis AI underscores the power of merging robotics and AI to address critical industry gaps, positioning him as a strong figure in both the African and global tech ecosystems. Take flight with Peter on November 13th, link in the comments! #startups #earlystage #entrepreneurship #BostonNewTech

🚀 Swiss-Mile secures $22M to pioneer embodied intelligence 🤖 Swiss-Mile, a #robotics startup from Zurich, has raised $22 million in seed funding to advance its autonomous four-legged robot on wheels. The funding round was led by Jeff Bezos’ Bezos Expeditions and HongShan (Sequoia Capital China), who believe Swiss-Mile will be a leader in the embodied intelligence sector. 🔧 Swiss-Mile is a spin-off from ETH Zürich's renowned Robotic Systems Lab and was co-founded by Marco Hutter, a leading robotics expert and, as of recently, a Greater Zurich Ambassador. Building on the lab’s cutting-edge research, the team has already enabled their quadrupedal robot to walk, drive, stand upright on two legs, and manipulate packages with wheeled end-effectors. 🌐 The #GreaterZurichArea, also coined the Silicon Valley of Robotics, provides the perfect environment for visionary startups like Swiss-Mile to thrive. With a high concentration of research and #talent, together with an influx of global investors, the region enables groundbreaking advancements in robotics and #IntelligentSystems. 🔗 Read the full story about Swiss-Mile’s seed funding round here: https://okt.to/4Hqovf. MWC Barcelona 2024 is not a place for the BAU. It’s a reunion of innovative products and companies of all sizes, from startups to enterprises. Everyone together, fom all around the world, at the same time. The talent density is palpable. Some thoughts after my visit: 🤖AI it's coming very strong to all areas of companies. It’s already here. 🎮 Not many game companies are exposed at MWC, but there are plenty of people from the industry that you can meet. 💻 I could see Xiaomi’s car (and others), transportation drones, transparent screens… it’s a tech event (not mobile centric). 🌏 Some of the most innovative ideas I saw come from Asia, not from the “west”.

This week has seen big news coming from #SiliconValley this week as tech incubator Y Combinator updated its roster of promising startup sectors. The 20 categories it seeks to include its renowned accelerator program include #ClimateTech, #AI-powered #Robotics, #Space, and #Defence technology, some of our core markets. This offers real insight into trends within the wider #VC world and the technologies that are seen to make the biggest impact on our collective future. Highlights for us: 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 – Achieving #NetZero emissions is imperative to avert catastrophic climate change. Legislative measures are poised to accelerate existing market trends. Notably, the recent Inflation Reduction Act allocates an estimated $800 billion in the US over a decade - 10x the investment that catalysed the growth of the US solar, battery, and electric vehicle industries in 2008. 𝗔𝗜-𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 - Rapid advances in AI are enhancing the utility of robotics, particularly in industrial contexts. While robotics hasn’t yet experienced its “GPT moment,” rapid improvements in foundational models now enable the creation of robots with human-level perception and judgment. 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 – Smaller defence firms are garnering increased investor attention due to their agility and adaptability compared to established primes. Given rapid technological advancements and global conflicts, continuous innovation is crucial for societal safety. 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 - The cost to reach orbit is falling fast, having fallen over 10x in the last 15 years. As we enter a future with space travel becoming increasingly accessible and routine, the possibilities that this unlocks are crazy. It's no secret that this aligns with our values to create a better future through technology and its great to see further alignment from the VC world. Picture the advances we have made in the last 10 years in these areas and just imagine where we will be 1, 5 or 10 years from now. #UnlockingHumanPotential
