Innovation Day - Have you heard of the City Transformers? February 16th recognizes the role knowledge plays in making a country more advanced and powerful. As a researcher interested in technology and its applications for improving traffic congestion, I found the recent innovation of the Israeli company City Transformer brilliant. The idea is a car with narrow dimensions that allows for urban maneuvering and a required parking space similar to that of two-wheeled vehicles but with the option of expanding the wheels to allow travel at a maximum speed of 90 [km/h]. When I first saw their prototype, I immediately thought of the Transformers, the TV series from the 80's where giant robots can transform into vehicles and other objects. While our cities are heavily congested with vehicles, causing traffic gridlock and pollution, the solution provided by the founders of City Transformer reduces parking space and optimizes road capacity.
