Through the Trade and Technology Council (TTC), the EU and the US foster collaboration in research and innovation and work towards common visions on emerging technologies. On 5th April, at the TTC ministerial meeting in Leuven, Belgium, the EU and US have adopted a common 6G vision setting out a path for leadership on this technology, building on the 6G outlook adopted in May 2023, and the industry roadmap on 6G of December 2023.

We talked about how we will work towards embedding societal and sustainable values into the development of #6G technology. Our project objectives are: 💡 Generating a better understanding and shared knowledge of the aspects influencing public acceptance of 6G technologies;  🏛 Supporting the development of an EU consensus framework for a value-based, sustainable and ethics-driven approach towards 6G and its subsequent promotion through the 6G EU and global standard-setting process;  🤝🏼 Engaging and reaching out to public audiences to build 6G social acceptance;  ⚖️ Empowering the 6G community to reflect EU policy and legislation into technology solutions for future networks’ development and services. Considerations around sustainability continue to play a key role in shaping Future G innovation – one that the Next G Alliance is currently helping to progress through its “Green G” working group. Their recent report “Evolution of Sustainability Indicators for Data Centers and Next Generation Core Networks” provides strategic recommendations for 6G in data center and core network sustainability to help attain net zero emissions across the entire ICT 6G value chain. This report not only highlights the criticality, but also serves as a guide to further inform, assess, and roll-out a holistic sustainability approach across the ICT industry.
