Exciting Groundbreaking at the Farolito Senior Community
We were honored to attend the groundbreaking ceremony yesterday at the Farolito Senior Community. This event marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration between ABC New Mexico, Sol Housing, YDI, and Jaynes Corporation as we join forces on a transformative Youth Build project over the next two years.
The Farolito Senior Community will serve as the construction site for this impactful program, designed to provide local youth with valuable skills in construction, teamwork, and leadership. Through this partnership, young individuals will gain hands-on experience while contributing to the development of much-needed housing for seniors in our community.
Stay tuned for updates as we work together to build a brighter future!
We had an excellent strategic planning session, where we identified four key pillars to focus on: business retention, expansion, attraction, and organizational strength. We're excited to continue this strategic planning journey and drive impactful growth together.

Founder, A. Hart Associates ~ Strategic business consultant helping leaders move their vision forward, faster.
Today I’m working with South Coast Development Council (SCDC) in beautiful Coos Bay, OR to craft their next strategic plan.
SCDC is working to build a thriving and diversified business community on the Southern Oregon Coast by promoting and supporting businesses that provide quality jobs through responsible development. I’m excited because there is so much opportunity for economic development in this community.
I have already been working closely with Executive Director Lexie Woodward, CEcD, PCED to analyze the opportunities and challenges facing the organization, and to identify what it will take to move from where SCDC is currently toward an ideal future.
In our session with the board today, our focus will be on setting priorities by driving consensus around high-level focus areas and objectives that will serve the forward moment of the organization and community.
Well said Maggie Swift!! I always leave these quarterly Entrepreneurs' Organization workshops feeling inspired and energized.
Yesterday's session covered Strategy - what is it, how do we communicate it, and is it sustainable to meet long-term goals? We workshopped the differences between strategy (what) and execution (how), what makes our firms unique on delivering our brand promise, our core purpose/passion and how we make a difference in this world, and our 10-year BHAG.
Strategy has been a central anchor in our business and the development of our brand, purpose, and long and short-term goals. It was re-affirming to workshop this and arrive to similar conclusions with some refinements and new ways of thinking about various aspects of it.
The other fun part is how applicable so much of this is to a capital project. Projects need an overall strategy and definition of success, otherwise the teams will never execute and align on a cohesive plan to get you there!

Camino Research Institute (CRI) delivered its 2024 Western North Carolina (WNC) Latino Community Strengths & Needs Assessment Report, shared by CRI Manager Sarai Ordonez, who was the excellent project lead.
The survey mostly captures the strengths, needs, gaps, and actual preferences and priorities of Hispanic and Latino/a/e people in WNC and in particular the undocumented population, whose voices are rarely heard, much less understood. 91% of survey respondents are immigrants from 16 different countries of origin, with 71% from Mexico.
What do survey respondents value most about the Latino people and community? Latinos recognize and take pride in their work ethic and entrepreneurship, as well as volunteering, cultural diversity, dependability, and sense of family and unity.
Latino concerns include the need for greater access to healthcare, including dental care, preventative healthcare, vision care, and mental healthcare; access to systems, including healthcare systems, with greater bilingual competency; and access to drivers licenses to increase system engagement and improve overall quality of life.
I encourage everyone to read the report and learn more about our Latino/a/e community. I serve on Camino's WNC Community Advisory Board—the only non-Latino on a board of fabulous Latino leaders and difference makers.

Over the past two years, Camino Research Institute has collaborated with trusted community organizations in Western North Carolina for the Latino Community Strengths and Needs Assessment. Our goal with this mixed method study is to better understand the experiences, strengths, and needs of the local Latino communities. We are excited to announce the release of our Western NC Latino Community Strengths and Needs Assessment report!
We heard from 512 Latinos and 11 community leaders. Throughout this project, I have had the privilege of working with an amazing group of individuals committed to serving the Latino community. Thank you to each community advisory board member and co-author who were instrumental in this accomplishment. I hope the results respectfully portray the WNC Latino community and increase resources throughout the area!

True progress in child and family well-being requires collective effort. No single organization, policy, or program can address the complex challenges families face today. It’s when agencies, community groups, advocates, and families themselves work hand-in-hand that we create pathways to lasting change.
When we engage as true partners—listening, learning, and building on each other’s strengths—we amplify our impact. I’ve committed my work to fostering this collaboration so that every child and family has the opportunity to thrive together. Let’s focus on breaking silos and building bridges.

Go Jags is all good for most football fans in Jax. As an individual, I say, at what price for the two percenters stadium? Research shows that the NFL Games do not impact taxpayers' quality of Life or the city. Plus, the folly to invest in Eastside is fool gold unless the Eastside dollars are simulating with the stadium renovation. To elevate a community, four pillars are required - rebuilding the family infrastructure, Afrocentric education, preventative health, and collective economics. African American leadership must demand more from the city when addressing unmet promises unfulfilled. Let Go, Jaguars, but put the citizens First. The African American leadership on the Eastside is dysfunctional. Albert Einstein once said we cannot solve our problems using the same thinking that created the problem when it comes to elevating the thinking and embracing stem education through workshops. The Jaguars or the city cannot save the Eastside without community activists, entrepreneurs, and subject matter experts who live in the community. Donna promises the Urban Core. Real talk.
We are so happy you were there!
