We are proud to host the International Dairy Calf to Beef Conference in partnership with Teagasc and BSAS - British Society of Animal Science, which kicked off today in Wexford. The event offers invaluable insights into the future of sustainable practices in the dairy and beef sectors. Key topics included the latest research on producing beef from dairy herds, strategies for developing profitable and sustainable dairy-beef systems and the integration of the dairy-to-beef supply chain. #TeamABP #Teagasc #BSAS #dairytobeef

Over the last four years, we've been optimising our platform so other companies, like retailers and food producers, can create cultivated animal products at scale. Part of that journey is developing a robust cell line process. Watch our CEO Brett Thompson break it down in this conversation hosted by Daniel Protz from FlavorWiki. It was a pleasure to contribute to the meeting of the European Federation of Animal Science (#EAAP) in Florence. I was invited to talk about "Perspectives on further integration of dairy and arable crop production". As mentioned in my talk, I am happy to see that the #AnimalTaskForce included "Optimising synergies between livestock and cropping systems with circular approaches" as a priority in their recently published Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda. Sustainable food systems require a well-balanced ratio between plant based and animal source foods. And there is an urgent need to increase the sustainability of both plant production and animal production: within these value chains, as well as by better connecting these chains. Moving towards more integrated plant-animal systems fits well in such directions. However, there are synergies as well as trade-offs related to more integrated plant-animal systems, and I presented several of them. Thanks #EAAP, #ADSA and #Resilience4Dairy for inviting me to this joint session.

The 2023 National Association of Animal Breeders (NAAB) semen sales report is out and dairy gender-sorted semen now leads the way among semen sales. Dairy gender-sorted semen topped the sales chart at 8.4 million units, followed by Beef on Dairy at 7.9 million units and conventional dairy semen was third at 7 million units sold. Forward thinking farmers are driving the trends of the dairy landscape and know that adapting to technology developments is the key to success. #STgenetics #Ultraplus #GenderSortedSemen #TechnologyReigns #DairyTrends #Vision+ #DairyTech

The Red Meat Industry Services (RMIS) recently met to discuss and launch their traceability initiative. Representatives of the various red meat producer organisations, including SAPPO and Department of Agriculture personnel, attended the event. RMIS emphasised that the introduction would be phased based on proper scoping exercises, and, importantly, compliance with the Animal Identification Act would be the guiding principle. An element that they wish to include in the traceability system is to register facilities and/or farms on the GS1 database. This is good news for SAPPO members as several pig farms are already registered on this database, i.e., have a Global Location Number (GLN). Technology is Enabling Improved Sustainability for Dairy & Beef farmers, a trend that must be accelerated if we want to ensure the growing demand for beef & dairy protein is met, while protecting the environment. On the 13th of May, Ludgate Hub invited me to present at their EcoTech 2024 seminar. Moonsyst International are enabling this across the 3 pillars of sustainability by: 1. Improved Animal Health (Social) 2. Strong Business Case for farmers (Economic) 3. Improved efficiencies and GHG monitoring (Environment) The demand for high quality beef & dairy protein is expected to double in the next 25 years, which regions are best equipped to services this demand sustainably? I'd be interested in peoples comments ✍ #SustainableFarming #DairyInnovation #EnvironmentalImpact

A new study by Frances Cowley et al, co-authored by FutureFeed's Dr Rob Kinley and Breanna Roque, PhD, evaluated the effects of feeding varying amounts of an Asparagopsis-oil formulation to beef cattle. The levels of methane (CH4) yield were reduced by 64%, 98% and 99%, with the cows consuming the highest amount of Asparagopsis-oil recording the greatest reduction in methane. This study rounds out the body of peer-reviewed research showing the safety and efficacy of Asparagopsis for beef feedlots. 📄 Exploring Social Media to Understand Perceptions of Milk Quality among Farmers, Processors, and Citizen-Consumers Michele Paleologo, Greta Castellini, Albino Claudio Bosio, Michele Fontana, Guendalina Graffigna "This study provides valuable #insights into the shifting #perceptions of #milk #quality among consumers, producers, and processors, revealing a significant communication gap. While consumers emphasize animal welfare and health concerns, producers focus on economic issues, and processors highlight technical product attributes. The analysis of #social #media discussions unveils distinct emotional landscapes, suggesting that a more inclusive approach in the dairy sector could help address consumer concerns and reverse declining milk consumption trends. Utilizing a comprehensive analysis of over 15,000 comments from platforms like Facebook and YouTube, this #research underscores the importance of understanding public sentiment to foster collaboration across the industry." - Greta Castellini, Researcher EngageMinds HUB 👉 The publication at the following link: https://lnkd.in/d9gDfp4X #socialmedia #milkquality #farmer #consumer #processors #sentimentanalysis #contentanalysis #consumerpsychology IRCAF - Invernizzi Reference Center on Agri-Food
