https://lnkd.in/dysPmsp3 Years ago, our exploration into the culture of research groups at my university, using the DENISON model, hit a standstill. It's heartening to see colleagues now advancing similar research. Their latest work employs the Ability-Motivation-Opportunity (AMO) framework, revealing how researchers' abilities, motivations (both intrinsic and extrinsic), and opportunities influence their scientific output. Analyzing 607 academic researchers, the study highlights positive links between ability, intrinsic motivation, opportunity, and performance but notes a complex negative relationship with extrinsic motivation. These insights not only push forward our understanding of academic productivity but also guide future policies for enhancing scientific achievements. doi:10.1080/03075079.2024.2307965 #AcademicResearch #AMOFramework #ScientificPerformance #Reto3x3ContagiaCienciaANECA Claudia Benítez Núñez Nieves Lidia Díaz Díaz

For some time, how we assess and validate scholarly contributions has been a topic of intense debate and scrutiny within the evolving landscape of academic research. The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) emerged as a pivotal initiative within this conversation. It challenged the longstanding reliance on flawed metrics such as the Journal Impact Factor (JIF) and instead champions a more holistic, transparent, and equitable approach to evaluating research. This article investigates the DORA movement’s origins, core principles, and far-reaching implications. Drawing insights from a diverse set of reference materials, it explores how DORA has been driving institutional change, reshaping research assessment practices, and empowering researchers to showcase the true value of their work. We dive deeper into this in our latest blog post 👇 https://lnkd.in/eH3jcGTN #ResearchAssessment #Editorial #PeerReview

🎶"Academic institutions should incentivize faculty to tackle real-world challenges"🎵 Gosh this paper is music to my ears We're deep in a planetary emergency, we really should be prioritising research that directly addresses our predicament. That's literally what 'emergency' means, it means you stop what you're doing and focus on what needs to be done. Yet the structures of academia often disincentivise this, so many researchers do research that will attract citations rather than research that will be useful, and few take the time to ensure their research has maximum impact in the real world (for example by communcating it broadly). https://lnkd.in/emqx5_2i Wonderfully, this paper makes the case that universities should "actively support faculty engagement in boundary-spanning work, providing an interface between research and society", and "meaningfully reward faculty work that makes a genuine impact on efforts to solve real-world problems, beyond academic publications." We made similar recommendations in our paper "From Publications to Public Actions" https://lnkd.in/eiUvK5wy
