Protecting your home and community from flood damage starts with smart planning. Here are key steps you can take: ◾️ Construct buildings above flood levels to keep your home safe from rising waters. ◾️ Do not build next to floodplains. They are more prone to flooding. ◾️ Protect wetlands, as they help absorb excess water during floods. ◾️ Plant trees to act as a barrier to floodwater. By taking these precautions, we can reduce the impact of floods and protect our communities. #DisasterRiskReduction #DRRday #ResilienceForAll #EarlyWarningForAll #ACS #EducationforResilience #DisasterReadyKids

Flood and water damage are different risks, and coverage varies. Floods, the most common natural disaster, aren’t covered by standard homeowner policies. Water damage, like burst pipes, is more common but may have limits. Talk to your agent to ensure you’re fully protected. #FloodInsurance #WaterDamage #HomeInsurance

If you live in a region prone to wildfires, it's important to be prepared for the floods and mudslides that frequently follow blazes in rural areas. After a wildfire, the charred ground it leaves is far less able to absorb water. This greatly increases the risk of flash floods and mudflows during rainfall. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) describes this double threat from fire and floods as “a one-two punch.” Before residents can repair their fire-damaged homes, they often are hit with torrents of water or rivers of mud. Find out more about the details of how these two natural disasters can effect one another. https://lnkd.in/gdyy89m5
