One out of every two people in the world will develop a mental health disorder in their lifetime, according to a study of more than 150,000 adults across 29 countries. As we observe #WorldMentalHealthDay, it’s clear there is a lot more work to do. While we’ve made strides in diagnosing and treating mental health in recent decades, the American Psychiatric Association estimates that more than half of individuals with mental illness don’t receive help. Learn how you can create awareness about mental health and remove the stigma that can accompany mental health challenges from the World Federation for Mental Health.

May 6-12 is #MentalHealthWeek, and we want to share some resources to help you better understand and support your mental health, the mental health of others, and how mental health impacts us all. The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is a national mental health organization, and 2024 marks its 73rd Mental Health Week. The 2024 theme for Mental Health Week is #CompassionConnects. Life is full of ups and downs, and by recognizing this shared experience, we start to feel how we can come together and support each other. Today marks World Mental Health Day. Although I think many such awareness raising occasions should be something that we work on everyday... I also think such events are useful for networks to illustrate their shared support for topics. I'm teaching a module at the University of Derby at the moment where we're exploring mental health and wellbeing. 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England. 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (like anxiety and depression) in any given week in England. Reports such as the Marmot Review (2020) and the book the Spirit Level (2015) highlight the role inequality in the UK plays in high levels of poor mental health and wellbeing. #mentalhealth

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 A week dedicated to raising awareness for mental health and recognising that everyone struggles in different ways. It’s important that everyone makes time for themselves and prioritises their mental health. This years theme is ‘Movement: Moving more for our mental health’. Regular physical activity is known to help improve mental health, quality of life, and wellbeing. It’s found that over a third of UK adults do not meet the recommended amount of activity. We challenge you to move for your mental health, if it’s getting out for a walk, jog or run, we want you to prioritise your mental health. Let us know how you move for mental health! Remember, someone is always there to speak to, Charlie or Claire are available as your Safeguarding officers, get in touch if you need extra support 📞

🌟 Mental Health Month is a nationwide initiative every October, aimed at boosting community awareness and interest in mental health and well-being. This year, South Australia’s theme is “It’s time to talk about mental health.” 🗣️ Let’s encourage everyone to discuss their mental health and seek help when needed. By starting these conversations, we can break down stigma and create a safe space for support. Early intervention is key! 💪 Mental Health Month helps raise awareness, reduce stigma, and reminds us to prioritize our mental health just as much as our physical health. Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength! 💚 Together, we can build a more understanding and supportive community for those facing mental health challenges. #MentalHealthMonth #itstimetotalk #mentalhealthawareness #breakthestigma #supporteachotherr #earlyintervention #StrengthInSeekingHelp #mentalwellbeing

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Are you aware of the resources available to you for support? Does your employer offer an EAP? Did you know that there is a National Lifeline, 988, available 24/7 that connects you to local assistance? That there is also a Text Line for support that you can message? (Text TALK or AYUDA to 741741). Knowing what is available is one step. Taking action is the next and most important step. Don't let mental health take a back seat, or become something you can do later. This May (June, July, August, and beyond that too) put your health first. Mental health is part of overall health. Help break the stigma and ask for help today. Support others who do the same. Together will always be where a difference is made.
