Yesterday, our Commissioner Maureen Lewis attended the official opening of WA’s first Gidget House, in Harrisdale. The Gidget Foundation Australia is a not-for-profit that provides perinatal mental health support to expectant, new and potential parents. Its expansion to WA is welcome news for Western Australian families needing support. For more information about Gidget Foundation Australia, visit https://lnkd.in/gRRAtMy
About us
The Mental Health Commission is responsible for planning and purchasing mental health, alcohol and other drug services in Western Australia. We do not provide direct mental health services, but purchase services for the state from a range of providers, including public Health Service Providers, a wide range of non-government organisations and private services. On 1 July 2024, the Mental Health Commission (the Commission) launched a dedicated Office of Alcohol and Other Drugs as part of a broader package of reforms to strengthen and elevate alcohol and other drugs governance in Western Australia. The Office of Alcohol and Other Drugs (the Office) is responsible for informing, developing, and overseeing the State Government’s alcohol and other drugs strategy and system-wide strategic policy reform, to achieve better outcomes for the Western Australian community. Our Vision is for Western Australians to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

Today on #InternationalDayofPeoplewithDisabilities, we are raising awareness about the #HiddenDisabilities Sunflower. The sunflower is a tool for people to voluntarily share they have a disability or condition others may not be able to see. Hidden disabilities can be neurological, cognitive and neurodevelopmental, as well as physical, visual and auditory. If a person with an invisible disability wears the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower symbol, it communicates they may need a helping hand, understanding or more time in public spaces. For more information visit www.hdsunflower.com/au/ Hidden Disabilities Sunflower - Australia & New Zealand #BeSeenWithSunflower #MakingTheInvisibleVisible
