🌟 Thrilled to Share Our Latest Research! 🌟 I'm excited to announce that research collaborating with my PhD supervisor Professor Daniel Rhind, other colleagues at Loughborough University and the NSPCC CPSU has been published in Child Abuse Review: 📄 Title: "An analysis of child safeguarding cases managed by National Governing Bodies of sport across England and Wales." 🖇 Read it here (open access): https://lnkd.in/eM_QQJaC Our study analyzed an incredible 3,129 safeguarding cases over four years, uncovering important insights: 👉 54% of concerns originated outside the sports context, showing how sports organizations play a pivotal role in the broader child protection system. 👉 Within sports, the most reported issues were physical abuse (20%), contact sexual abuse (20%), non-contact sexual abuse (17%), and emotional abuse (17%). 👉 The findings highlight the critical need for standardised data collection and proactive safeguarding measures to protect children in sport and beyond. This work sheds light on the vital role of sports in safeguarding and child protection, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation in this field. I'm incredibly proud to have coauthored this paper with an amazing team, and I hope it sparks meaningful discussions and actions. If this resonates with you or aligns with your work, I’d love to hear your thoughts or reflections! Let's drive positive change together. #SafeSport #ChildProtection #ChildAbuseReview

📣Responding to the Policy Address 2024: InspiringHK Sports Foundation Supports Promoting a Habit of Regular Exercise to Facilitate Students' Holistic Development In response to the 2024 Policy Address by The Hon John LEE Ka-chiu, GBM, SBS, PDSM, PMSM, the Chief Executive, we are excited to see Physical Education included in the primary school internal assessments starting from the 2026/27 school year, with a weighting equal to that of Visual Arts and Music. This change in policy conveys the importance of children's and youths’ participation in physical activities to schools, parents, and the public, reflecting also the Education Bureau's commitment to promoting holistic student development and growth through physical education. We are dedicated to promoting a habit of regular exercise among children and youths in Hong Kong. In collaboration with our lead advocacy partner, CTFE Social Solutions, the philanthropic arm of Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE), we have launched the public education campaign "SportsHour", advocating children and adolescents aged 5-17 to engage in at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA60) daily, which is in line with the World Health Organisation's recommendation. We propose the following recommendations for enhancing sports-related education and public health: ⭐Implementation and strengthening of the "Whole School Health Programme" ⭐Integration of physical activities to promote the "4Rs Mental Health Charter" and "Mental Health Literacy Resource Package" ⭐Encouraging schools to motivate students to achieve "MVPA60" ⭐Expanding community services for children and youths through physical activities For a full version of our response, please click here to read our press release: https://lnkd.in/gjZfzXBj Together, let’s foster a healthier, more active future for children and youths in Hong Kong! #IHKSports #CTFESS #SportsCharity #PolicyAddress2024 #MVPA60 #PhysicalActivity #MentalHealth

A key week for #YoungCarers in parliament. On Tuesday, the Children’s Wellbeing & Schools Bill to provide for the safeguarding and welfare of vulnerable children, including young carers, was introduced in the House of Commons. And yesterday Lib Dem leader Ed Davey highlighted in #PMQs the Young Carers Covenant, setting out ten outcomes that young carers from across the UK have said are key to improving their lives - a campaign that Honeypot supports as a network partner of Carers Trust. Honeypot works closely with schools to address the risk of young carers underachieving in education through the delivery of our Social and Emotional Active Learning programme (SEAL). These learning breaks help young carers to build the skills, confidence and self-esteem needed to succeed in school and reach their full potential later in life. Learn more about SEAL on our website: https://lnkd.in/ePvTPG_j

School Districts across BC have received a combined $950,000,000 in funding from the BC government to support kids with disabilities and diversabilities. Nanaimo has no sports or activities (besides swimming in elementary school) for kids with physical disabilities. Where is the money going? Great story on Global BC this morning featuring Inclusion BC calling for transparency in school districts to account for where they are spending the money.
