Today marks a big day for me – 5 years working in Gjirafa's People and Culture team 🎈 Back in October 2017, right after finishing my Master Studies in HRM abroad, I reached out to Mergim about joining Gjirafa, Inc.. Organized a meeting with a member of Gjirafa at that time. Even though there wasn't a spot for me then, I didn't give up. Instead, I landed a great gig at Deloitte in the Human Capital Advisory Services team, where I learned a ton and developed professionally. 15 months later, but this time with a year of professional experience, I connected with Mergim again, still passionate about HR and joining Gjirafa. He said someone would get in touch, and Greta did! After a bunch of meetings (one also with Mergim), I joined Gjirafa in 2019. These past 5 years have been amazing – full of learning and growth. I've been lucky to work with a team that's all about getting better and embracing differences. Big thanks to everyone at Gjirafa for their support and friendship. You've made this journey awesome! This year, PETRONAS is celebrating its 50th anniversary. That is a huge milestone for the company and for me personally. I joined PETRONAS in 2001, when I was only 22 years old. Now I am forty-five, and I have spent more than half of my life working here. It has been a journey full of ups and downs, challenges and opportunities, learning and growth. Looking back, I can say that my experience in PETRONAS has been rewarding and fulfilling. I have had the chance to work in different areas, from business planning to pricing, from risk management to human resource, from project management and now to talent management. I have learned new skills, gained new knowledge, and expanded my horizons. I have also met many people who have influenced me in different ways. Some were mentors, some were peers, some were subordinates. Some were supportive, some were critical, some were inspiring, some were frustrating. But they all taught me something valuable, either by example or by contrast. I have learned to appreciate diversity, to respect different opinions, to collaborate with others, and to communicate effectively. Of course, not everything was smooth sailing. I have also faced many difficulties and setbacks in my career. I have had to deal with tight deadlines, changing priorities, complex problems, and uncertain outcomes. I have had to cope with stress, pressure, and sometimes disappointment. I have had to adapt to different leadership styles, from bosses who directed me, to bosses who listened to me, to bosses who supported me, to bosses who did not. I have learned to be flexible, to be resilient, to be proactive, and to be accountable. Now I find myself in a position where I can apply what I have learned and what I have experience and try to create a positive environment for my team. Now, as PETRONAS turns fifty, I realize that the challenges we are facing are greater than ever before. We are living in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous world, where the energy industry is undergoing a major transformation. We have to deal with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate change crisis, the digital disruption, and the changing customer expectations. We must balance the needs of the present and the future, the interests of the stakeholders and the society, the demands of the business and the environment. We have to innovate, to differentiate, to collaborate, and to sustain. As citizens of PETRONAS, we all have a role to play in this journey. We must rise to the challenge. We can contribute to the vision and mission of PETRONAS. We have to focus on the next 50 years, and what legacy we want to leave for the next generation. We have to be proud of our past, passionate about our present, and optimistic about our future. Happy birthday PETRONAS!
