Across the globe sepsis has been estimated to result in more than 11 million deaths a year[1] and septic shock, the most severe form, leaves nearly 40% of patients dead at hospital discharge.[2] Worldwide about 5-7 million people develop sepsis with very high endotoxin activity.[3] Endotoxin activity can be measured by an endotoxin activity assay (EAA) test and combined with SOFA score has the potential to identify patients with ESS.[3] As your partner, Baxter is committed to identifying sepsis and innovating for improved sepsis management. Today is World Sepsis Day. Simply defined, sepsis is the extreme reaction of the body to an infection. There is no effectve treatment for sepsis. According to the World Health Organisation, an estimated 11 million people die of sepsis every year, of which 2.9 million are children under the age of five. Every 2.8 seconds someone dies of sepsis. Having the leadership role in Matisse is a great honour and I am taking pride in the fact that we are one or the few clinical stage companies worldwide actively investing in advancing a solution for what is probably the highest unmet medical need out there. Every second counts! #sepsis, #worldsepsisday #Matissepharmaceuticals
September 13th marks World Sepsis Day, dedicated to raising awareness of sepsis — a life-threatening condition that claims a life every few seconds. Despite ongoing research, there is still no effective treatment specifically targeting the inflammatory response in this condition. The urgent need for a new drug to reduce sepsis mortality is clear. Every second counts. Matisse has the vision to become the first company worldwide to effectively combat sepsis by developing a novel treatment targeting the root cause of sepsis aimed at saving millions of lives annually. #Worldsepsisday #Sepsisawareness #Sepsisawarenessmonth

Low-dose rivaroxaban in combination with aspirin has been shown to reduce the risk of limb complications, including amputation, among people with stable symptomatic peripheral artery disease and after lower extremity revascularization. The mechanism of this benefit is postulated to be the prevention of arterial atherothrombosis. In an editorial, Dr. Charles de Mestral from Unity Health Toronto discusses whether the trial results published in NEJM Evidence of rivaroxaban plus aspirin versus aspirin alone are sufficient to change practice and prescribe the combination for claudication.
