An RCT recently published in JAMA of 343 patients undergoing non-emergent cardiac surgery who were at high risk of CSA-AKI showed that use of the Oxiris filter set during CPB was associated with a significant reduction in the incidence of CSA-AKI over the first seven days post-surgery. Use of the Oxiris filter set was also associated with significant reductions in TNF-a and IL-8 concentrations during surgery, based on a subgroup analysis of patients in whom cytokines were measured. Baxter is delighted to sponsor three new episodes of Conversations in Nephrology, a Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) podcast series for clinicians treating patients with kidney disease. In conversations with experts from across the globe, Dr. Kathleen Liu explores persistent acute kidney injury (AKI), personalized treatment plans for AKI patients, extracorporeal blood purification, and the possibilities of improving patient outcomes. ✅ 𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 A recent study suggests that CRRT is associated with less RRT dependence 90 days after hospital discharge vs IHD.¹ In this study, ICU patients with AKI who were initially treated with CRRT had a >30% lower risk of being dependent on dialysis 90 days after ICU discharge than those who had been given IHD.¹ AKI, acute kidney injury; CRRT, continuous renal replacement therapy; ICU, intensive care unit; IHD, intermittent hemodialysis; RRT, renal replacement therapy Reference: 1. Did you know that in critically ill patients with severe AKI, initiation of Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) as compared to Intermittent Hemodialysis (IHD), has been associated with a significant reduction in the composite outcome of death or Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) dependence? A post-hoc analysis (N=2196) of the STARRT-AKI trial found that CRRT was associated with a lower risk of the composite of all-cause mortality or RRT dependence 90 days after randomization compared to IHD.1 Learn more at https://ow.ly/eFsR50Qsbnk.
