Infomative... Passenger Vehicles Sales in December'2024 .... The domestic passenger vehicle wholesales in the Indian automobile industry rose by 11% YoY in December'2024 to 320,000 units .. In CY'24, domestic PV wholesales stood at 4.3 Million units, recording YoY growth of about 4.7%. Maruti Suzuki once again registered a strong domestic sales number in December'2024. As per the SIAM data , Maruti Suzuki domestic PV sales stood at more than 1.30k units ,a strong growth YoY growth of 24% .. While , MG Motors registered a 55% YoY growth in domestic PV sales & Mahindra registered 17.4% YoY growth in December'2024... October was a strong month for Indian automakers, with several manufacturers reporting impressive sales, even surpassing previous records for the month. As we move into November, it will be interesting to see how the market performs. The sales figures this month will be very improtant to gauge how much of demand got pulled forward into festive season. The automotive retail sales numbers for September 2024 show a decline in demand for two-wheelers, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles. Barring three-wheelers with a flat growth and tractor segment with 14 percent growth, sales have declined both on a month-on-month basis as well as year-on-year basis. Vigneshwar C S, President, Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the apex body representing the automotive dealers in India, states that "A successful October is essential to clear out excess inventory and set a positive growth trajectory for the remainder of FY2025. If the anticipated sales do not materialise, it could shift the outlook to pessimistic, putting dealers as well as OEMs in a difficult position heading into the new year" https://lnkd.in/duMpVAe9 #Sales #automotive #retail

#Why_Are_Car_Sales_Down? Post 1/2* The passenger car segment has experienced double-digit growth over the past three financial years: - #FY22: +13%   - #FY23: +26%   - #FY24: +8% However, the August year-over-year (YOY) change in sales for the top three manufacturers shows a decline: 1. #Maruti_Suzuki: -8.4% (from 156,114 to 143,075 units) 2. #Hyundai: -8% (from 53,830 to 49,525 units) 3. #Tata_Motors: -3.2% (from 45,933 to 44,486 units) The data shared by car manufacturers represents #Primary_Sales**, which is not an entirely accurate metric to assess the overall market situation. - #Primary_Sales: Sales from the company to the dealer (e.g., Maruti billing a dealer in XYZ city).   - #Retail_Sales: Sales from the dealership to the end consumer (e.g., you buying a car from a dealer in XYZ city). Retail sales provide a better reflection of the market situation. #Dealer_Inventory_and_Financial_Strain Dealer inventories have increased, leading to additional warehouse costs. To clear the stock, dealers are offering additional discounts. This creates a loss for dealers in two ways: increased costs from inventory storage and reduced margins due to discounts. Now that dealers have reached full stocking capacity, companies (manufacturers) are holding inventory. The decline in car sales started in July, marking the first drop since #COVID_19. - #June_Inventory: 67 days (if production stops, the available stock would last 67 days to meet consumer demand) - #July_Inventory: 72 days   - #August_Inventory: 75 days The estimated value of August's inventory was approximately ₹77,000 crore. This has impacted the stock market, with automobile stocks declining. >𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐯𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐥𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚? - High inventory levels: Inventory levels with car makers are forecast to be around 400,000 valuing at around Rs. 44,000 crores. This is the highest number in terms of volume ever to be recorded. This even surpasses the amount of inventory before the festive season as car makers like to stock up before festive season. - Bleak performance in May: The wholesales are outpacing the retails which may mean a 5% decline in May retail sales compared to earlier year. Auto makers are expected to end May month with 340,000-350,000 vehicles dispatched, up by 4-4.5% compared to last year. - The reason for the slowing demand: The reason is quite simple as the industry has already seen a good run in terms of sales in last three years. This was largely due to the pent-up demand due to the covid which seems to be over now. Pre-covid stock for the industry used to be around 45 days which had come down to 2-3 weeks according to Hardeep Singh Brar from Kia India. He also noted that the stock levels are high at present. This also hints at the slowing demand for the industry. Other reasons for the slowing demand according to the industry executives are uncertainty of election results, end of marriage season and heat waves in some key markets. - Change in outlook for the future: According to Vinkesh Gulati, Head of Research at Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), month of June might also see the same performance. According to him festive season will be the trigger for demand push. Meanwhile, companies may increase their discounts by 15-20%, offer some schemes in June. It would be interesting to see what effects would new launches in EV and ICE powertrains have on this slowing demand situation. Expected interest rate cuts in the later part of this year, new policies by the post-election government might prompt the demand to go up.
