Here’s the 1 thing that I wish more founders knew: When you receive VC funding, you are entering into a long-term relationship with your investor(s). In addition to providing them with investor updates and maintaining frequent communication, you will be receiving guidance and feedback. Just like VCs do their diligence on founders, you should do your diligence on VCs. Don't expect to get a single reason for why you were rejected for a VC investments. I have had a few conversations with founders who got a No from VCs, and when they mentioned the reason, or feedback, it always sounded like an excuse. My blunt and honest reply to those founders was: "Don't try to find a single reason, it is never just one things but a holistic decision that the VCs might not be able to clarify why". You can always go back to the VC and try to ask clarifying questions, but VCs typically will give you this high level reason that could not be the single reason why they rejected you. #VentureCapital #Rejection #Fundraising #Startups

Don’t reply to VC feedback. It’s rare to get feedback, but if you do, that doesn’t mean it’s a two way conversation. Most of the time VCs don’t have the time to give feedback to every rejection. So if you are lucky and get feedback, it’s very very unlikely that: A) It’s the full story B) They want to hear your reply to it Just offer to add them to your future investor newsletter, and move on. The only caveats: 1) You know the VC really really realllly well 2) They ask you a direct question - not a rhetorical one!
