As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, we highlight the vital role of women in shaping societies and combating #climatechange. We encourage women’s participation in dialogue activities and decision-making processes. This way, we ensure that women are presented in and actively engage in our project activities - paving the way for more #sustainable and #inclusive impact.   The challenges women face because of climate-induced hazards are frequently overlooked. To drive sustainable solutions, women must be actively integrated into decision-making processes. As part of our broader support of climate change mitigation and peace, we brought together over 40 civil society organisations and women activists to address the impact of climate change focusing on various social dimensions. Together, the participants discussed and developed strategies to mitigate climate change effectively. Another area in which women are often underrepresented is local governance. #Waterscarcity, limited public services and a lack of infrastructure tremendously affect women’s lives. That is why, together with Oxfam, we have supported public dialogues in finding solutions in Diyala and Ninewa. Offering safe spaces and raising awareness among men on why women’s voices count, women have increasingly participated and actively contributed their perspectives. One great success: After raising concerns about the dark streets which might negatively affect security at night, especially for women, local authorities set up streetlights – a benefit for everyone. #InvestInWomen #InternationalWomensDay #8March

Women in Energy and Economic Sustainability Initiative joins the United Nations to specially celebrate women today. Improving diversity and inclusivity in the renewable energy sector and investing in empowering women, not only as beneficiaries but also as active agents of change, will help mitigate poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation. New report from the COPGendered project 🌍 On 2 and 3 June 2023, the first COPGendered Capacity Building event was organised in Vienna, Austria. At the event, different feminist justice perspectives highlighted the political challenges in addressing the climate crisis, stressing time and again that the climate crisis is a social crisis. The environmental challenges posed by climate change are universal, however, they exacerbate inequality, including gendered inequalities. Though women in Asia manage and disproportionately bear the negative impacts of provisioning water and energy for households and communities, their views are rarely sought at decision-making levels. Next week, the Asia Women and Rivers Congress seeks to rectify that. From June 4-6, the Asia Women and Rivers Congress will unite over 120 women leaders – from riverine and Indigenous communities, civil society, academia, and policymakers – to discuss the challenges faced in transboundary river basins across South and Southeast Asia. With a focus on how gender rights intersect with water, energy, and climate change, participants will share their experiences and knowledge to plan women’s-led river protection campaigns.
