Three weeks ago, I published a learning video here introducing risk analysis with electric trucks in a workshop. I created this video during my CAS Technology&Media in Education at ZHAW Zentrum für Innovative Didaktik (ZID). My goal was to have a video that could be quickly translated into other languages using AI tools. The most important aspect was to have a video with no text content, only visualizations. Normally, I'm a person who believes in "don’t discuss, just do." However, in this case, the outcome was better with less wasted effort due to basic project planning. The video took a lot of time to create, but today, translating and adding speech is very easy with AI tools. Here is the version for my Swedish colleagues. As a teacher educator, I find that 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲. I often receive questions about the “𝗵𝗼𝘄”—𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘐 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵, 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘐 𝘢𝘥𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘳𝘶𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘴, 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘐 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘐 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦, etc.—and I believe this tool effectively scaffolds the use of AI in our classrooms. 🎯I’ve tested and organized it as follows: • 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The AIAS encourages us to reflect on when to bring AI into teaching—and when to hold back—promoting intentional choices. The AIAS provides practical guidance that respects the teachers’ autonomy. • 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲: This scale is incredibly helpful for designing initial versions of rubrics aligned with the level of AI use, offering clarity and direction. I just wrapped up a fantastic day at the IATEFL BESIG Online Symposium📚, where I learned about the latest trends in using AI for Business English teaching. The sessions were insightful, covering everything from how AI transforms teaching and learning to the value of good old human interaction. 🔍 A few key takeaways from today: - New EdTech tools designed for Business English learners. - Practical tips for integrating AI into Business English teaching. - How AI prompts can enhance business communication. AI is growing rapidly, and everyone’s trying to figure out how to make the most of it in their teaching and learning. But like everything else, it comes with some challenges. During his talk, Alex Asher, the CEO of LearnCube, pointed out some current limitations of AI, like biases in AI models, costs, and accessibility. He also mentioned why some companies are still hesitant to fully adopt AI, citing reasons like old habits (17.5%), teacher training issues (20%), resistance to technology (15%), etc. As we reflect on integrating AI in teaching, it’s crucial to consider both the immediate and long-term implications.
