Our latest scientific paper is out now! In collaboration with the TU Delft, we have published a paper on the production of rose fragrance 2-phenylethanol (2PE), a compound often used in detergents and cosmetics. A huge thank you to Jean-Marc Daran and Marijke Luttik for the wonderful collaboration! Biomanufacturing at large scale is required to make the transition to a biobased economy, but adoption is often limited by costs, as a result of KPI’s such as productivity. This issue becomes even more pressing when you are trying to produce compounds that are toxic, such as 2PE. By continuously removing the toxic product from the fermentation with continuous liquid-liquid extraction, the aqueous concentration is kept at the desired level, dramatically improving productivity. This was shown in our pilot scale reactor at Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant with a strain developed at the TU Delft. We should mention the great scientists at DAB.bio that also contributed to the paper: Alessandro Brewster, Arjan Oudshoorn, Marion van Lotringen, Pieter Nelisse, Emily van den Berg Link to the paper in the comments.

🌟 Exciting news from Shroom-E Co.! They have been awarded $275,000 by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the National Science Foundation's Translational Impacts office. This #SBIR Phase I project aims to revolutionize the production of specialty cultivated mushrooms (SCM) with an innovative fruiting block (FB) production system. The system promises to increase production speed, reduce labor and energy costs, and minimize contamination risks. Additionally, it aims to eliminate single-use plastics in SCM production, contributing to a more sustainable future. 🌱 🔬 The project will automate key steps in SCM FB production, such as sterilization, inoculation, and packaging, and introduce innovative processes to enhance efficiency. The system's efficacy will be tested against robust mold and compared to conventional methods to prove its commercial feasibility. This award reflects NSF's commitment to supporting groundbreaking research with significant commercial potential. Here are the key findings from my research note presented at the CINET 2024 International Conference, hosted by Hamburg University of Technology. 🔵 Continuous Innovation in Coffee Machine Technologies 🔵 This research explores: ◼ A review of current heating system technologies in professional coffee machines. ◼An analysis of energy-efficient technologies applied to heating systems. ◼ A patent review of heating technologies for coffee machines. Our work advances the field of continuous product innovation in coffee machine heating systems, contributing to the literature on sustainable design and energy efficiency.
