In a world that moves at the speed of a click, the hospitality industry finds itself at a pivotal juncture. To keep pace, hotels are turning to the power of IT capability and organizational agility, a strategy that's more necessity than choice in today's digital age. Drawing from the insightful research "Hotels in contexts of uncertainty: Measuring organisational resilience" by Melián-Alzola, Fernández-Monroy, & Hidalgo-Peñate (2020), it's clear that the thoughtful integration of technology into hotel operations isn't just about keeping up—it's about setting the pace. Imagine a hotel where every guest interaction is personalized, where operational efficiency is not just an objective but a reality, and where market changes are met not with trepidation but with anticipation and agility. This isn't a distant dream but a tangible outcome of investing strategically in IT capabilities, from systems like Mews that help anticipate guests' needs and streamline operations. As we delve into the practical applications of these findings, it becomes evident that the future of hospitality lies in our ability to embrace technology—not as a crutch, but as a catalyst for innovation and connection. By investing in staff training, partnering with IT specialists, and leveraging data analytics, hotels can transform the guest experience, ensuring that every stay is not just remembered but cherished. The path forward is one of balance, where technology enhances rather than overshadows the human touch. In this digital renaissance, the goal is clear: to use IT not just to adapt but to thrive, crafting unforgettable experiences that resonate with guests long after they've checked out. Let's embark on this journey together, leveraging IT to unlock the full potential of our hotels and redefine what it means to be agile in the hospitality industry.

Collaboration Over Competition In the hospitality industry, hotels and shortlet apartments often serve similar purposes—providing accommodation for travelers—but their operations and value propositions are fundamentally different. People sometimes expect the amenities and services of a hotel when booking a shortlet apartment, but it's important to recognize that both models have distinct strengths. From a collaboration standpoint, there are scenarios where deals or requests that might not be as profitable for a shortlet apartment could make more sense for hotels, especially due to the differences in space and turnover rates. Hotels often benefit from having more rooms and faster turnover, allowing them to handle more bookings at lower unit costs. In contrast, shortlet apartments, especially fully serviced ones, offer more privacy, space, and a home-like experience, which typically comes at a higher cost per unit, even though their booking rate might be comparable to that of hotels. While shortlet apartments usually have lower profit margins compared to hotels when judged on a per-booking basis, they cater to a different kind of traveler—one looking for a longer stay, more space, or a more personal experience. Therefore, both hotels and shortlets have their respective target audiences, and understanding these differences can foster collaboration rather than competition. At the end of the day, hotels are not necessarily the competitors of shortlet apartments. Instead, by focusing on the distinct needs of their audiences and recognizing the profit structures of each, both can thrive and even refer clients to one another, depending on what best serves the customer. #HospitalityIndustry #ShortletApartments #HotelManagement #ServicedApartments #AccommodationSolutions #CollaborationOverCompetition #BusinessStrategy #TravelAccommodation #CustomerExperience #HospitalityBusiness #RealEstateInvesting #PropertyManagement #BusinessGrowth
