The Days of Your Youth In this video, I shared my experience at the three (3) recent training I went for in Dar es Salam, Tanzania; the 1st training was Think Tank 360 by Atlas Network, the Africa Liberty Forum and the Top Leaders’ Retreat by African Students For Liberty. All these trainings were centred on #leadership, think tank principles and practice, north-star metrics, organizational structure, effective management, organizational communication, conflict resolution, fundraising, project management, resource mobilization, community organizing and strategic planning. All these trainings are important in the days of my youth because there are no other ways to meet people, connect with leaders of other African countries, provide sustainable solutions to Africa’s socio-economic challenges and promote a community of professionals. What would you like to do in the days of your youth? What skills do you have to contribute to the development of your community? Are you a change maker or a business enthusiast? These are some questions you must ask yourself, if indeed you are living a purposeful life. Find out more in the video. Trust me, it will be worth your time. PS: I was having a fun moment with my colleague, Chidera Ezeokoli admiring the view of our suit at Johari Rotana, and we decided to shoot a video. #personaldevelopment #purpose

On this Africa Youth Day, we celebrate the impact of young leaders driving change through #Leading4Change Ghana. #Leading4Change equips youth with essential leadership skills through immersive workshops and hands-on projects. Over four intensive days, participants develop their growth mindset, situational leadership, emotional intelligence, and strategic influence abilities. These skills are then put into practice through three months of community-based projects focused on agriculture, food security, and climate action. As our program lead, Annie Dela Akanko, shares: "It was really fulfilling to see the youth, after the three months implementation of their activity learning projects, to see themselves transformed, being able to work well with people, being able to lead their teams to implement projects in the midst of the conflicts, the challenges, and also being able to integrate various stakeholders into the approach and accomplishing their results." This is what youth empowerment looks like in action. This is how we build a resilient, food-secure, and climate-smart Africa – by investing in the boundless potential of our youth. 👏 #L4CGhana

The place of quality education in Leadership for the African youth Africa's youth population is brimming with potential, and equipping them with leadership skills is crucial for the continent's future. Quality education plays a central role in nurturing these abilities. Traditional education systems in Africa have often emphasized rote learning and memorization. However, effective leadership development requires a more holistic approach. Quality leadership education empowers young Africans with critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. It fosters creativity, innovation, and an understanding of complex issues. Leadership programs that go beyond the classroom and provide practical experience are vital. This could involve internships, mentorship opportunities, or participation in youth-led organizations. Exposure to real-world challenges allows young people to develop their leadership abilities in a safe and supportive environment. Technology can also play a significant role. Online courses and platforms can provide access to leadership education for young people in remote areas. Additionally, social media can be a tool for connecting with mentors and peers, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing. Investing in quality leadership education for African youth is an investment in the continent's future. By equipping young people with the necessary skills and knowledge, we can empower them to become the effective leaders Africa needs to thrive. After watching the short video clip presented by Ms Catherine Busari from Leap Africa while teaching on Leadership Development and Governance in the SDG Masterclass for the week, I immediately picked that it’s usually easy for the young generation to initiate change; but for that move to bring about a positive change and true development I’d recommend that there be some sort of synergy with the wisdom and experience older generation. She pointed out that they at LEAP Africa are committed to bridging the leadership gap in Africa. We saw 5 five leadership styles which includes the commanding, visionary, democratic, affiliative and coaching style. I’d say all of the styles would be needed depending on the context or situation involved. Lastly, what stood out for me during her session was the acronym RAISE which represents: Role Model, Agency Building, Inspiring & Motivating, Showing Empathy, and Encouraging High Level of Success. Dr Charles Nwishienyi (CIBE, mMBA) took us on Grant Application and Proposal Writing as we wrapped up the class for the week. He steadily emphasized the importance of research and planning in the aforementioned. He further highlighted the need to follow the guidelines of the funding agencies as well as understanding what value means to the funding body. As we considered the subtopic of research and relationship in grant application and proposal writing, we saw the following points as helpful: - Attending network events and workshops related to your project field - Cultivating relationships with program officer from funding agencies - Collaborating with partners, community organizations, or other stakeholders and - Reaching out to preview grant recipients who have successfully secured funding. To wrap it up, we saw the 6 rules for reaching out to funders which includes; do your research, listen to learn, find a networking strategy that works for you, get personal, make a clear, lastly, follow up and follow through. #sdg #sdg2030 #globalimpact

The APRM is a critical tool for African nations to assess their progress, identify challenges, and collectively work towards sustainable solutions for political, social, and economic development. Through this course, I have gained valuable insights into promoting participatory leadership and enhancing governance structures that are inclusive and effective. As we strive to build stronger institutions and empower communities, I remain committed to contributing to Africa’s vision for sustainable development and transformational leadership. Here’s to advancing #GoodGovernance, #Leadership, and #Accountability in Africa! 💡

In Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, there is a saying: "The fish rots from the head." This highlights the critical role of leadership in shaping communities. When a child goes astray, people often ask who the father is, and in some cases the mother. Similarly, when a public servant falls short, there is curiosity about which schools s/he attended. This reflects the fact that leadership, whether at home, in institutions, or in public roles, sets the foundation for desired change, and hence the need to invest in it. UNESCO recently released the Global Education Monitoring Report underscoring the importance of strong school leadership in driving meaningful change. This is a fascinating and insightful read, shedding light on how robust leadership including School Management Committees, in schools can influence and inspire quality education. Good school leaders bring out the best in teachers and learners. Hence professional school leaders require preparation and continuous training and support. Yet national and international investment in education is declining, especially in teacher and school leadership continuous development.
