#ThrowbackThursday: This Thursday, we're revisiting a blog titled “Solar Farm Proposed in Tallahassee” by Logan Shewmaker. This blog was originally published on June 2, 2015. This blog reports on the proposal for the creation of a solar farm in Tallahassee. There are a lot of benefits to having a solar farm, however, it does come at a high cost. The project would be able to produce 10 megawatts, which is 1% of the energy Tallahassee uses. City officials are hoping that a federal tax credit will persuade third-party companies to join the project. Solar power prices have gone down, but it is still significantly more expensive to utilize it over natural gas. It may take years for solar farms to be affordable for a city like Tallahassee. This is the kind of thing that blows your mind: "Developers of utility-scale solar farms in #Maryland might have to start compensating counties for erecting their sprawling arrays in preservation areas. In exchange, those projects would face fewer regulatory restrictions." It should be the other way around! State and local governments should be charging oil and gas emitters the fee, then PAYing the solar developers to develop! We are the ones doing the preserving! 🤯 #solar #energy #climatechange

CLEAN ENERGY COMING SOON: Dairyland Power Cooperative is getting a whopping $573 million in funds from the Inflation Reduction Act to bring massive investments in clean energy to western Wisconsin! This funding will help Dairyland Power invest in solar and wind projects that will generate 1,080 megawatts of power — enough to power 800,000 homes. Early estimates show these projects will cut energy costs for Dairyland Power customers by 42% over the next decade!
