Great event last night with the Techstars Los Angeles Accelerator and Techstars Space Accelerator team last night to support the LA DeepTech Ecosystem. There was a great mix of early and mid-stage founders, potential future founders, industry practitioners, and investors. Thank you Sherman Williams II for moderating an insightful discussion with Ian McCubbin, Cody Bronkar, and Awais Ahmed. A few take-aways from last night - - No one can go into space by themselves. - For many A&D verticals, you have two options: indigenize or globalize - Some things countries will require to be made in country-government defense contracts. Luther-Bergquist and me as a satellite event to the 1E9 Festival of the Future in Munich, we will gather innovators at the intersection of #deeptech and #dualuse in Europe, with a focus on prototyping and validating ideas around defensive and life-sustaining technologies To be clear, as some of you may cringe when you read “defense tech”: This is not so much about developing killer drones but about preserving life and defending democracy Democracy and its freedoms are not guaranteed and require commitment and active participation. Forget Unicorns with paper wings...any rocket ship can go up with fuel. I'm thinking about Volcano's more recently. Slow building up of pressure, that explodes and creates land around itself. Looking at some of the largest VC founding stories either they built businesses like this, or identified ones like this and went in early; they share this fact more than anything else. So this one is for the Deeptech founders, founders forging into a space that not many people are thinking about, founders that are working in stealth almost by default but can see the spark their solution will unlock. Build for users and customers that want to pay, build the pressure. Volcano's not Rocket's painted as Unicorns. Unicorns fade, rockets break down to salvage or scrap...Volcano's leave a landmark that can't be ignored even once they go dormant. 🌋 #buildforcustomers #rowyourownrace #founderjourney
