Natural gas is definitely part of the solution going forward. This is a perfect example as AES is accelerating the energy transition in Indiana in a responsible and orderly way.

AES Indiana has taken the next step in its transition plan to deliver cleaner, more efficient and cost-effective energy solutions to meet the state’s future energy needs. We filed a request with the Indiana Utility and Regulatory Commission (IURC) for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) to convert Petersburg units 3 & 4 from coal to natural gas. If approved, AES Indiana will continue to power the needs of its customers through a diverse resource portfolio comprised primarily of natural gas, wind, solar and energy storage. The project will save customers approximately $280 million over a 20-year period by avoiding coal-related costs. Additionally, the refueling will result in a carbon intensity reduction of 70% by 2030 compared to 2018 levels. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eVfEgDxX

🇦🇺 📊☀️🔋 𝗔𝗨𝗦 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 👉key findings re. solar and storage upcoming projects from the Quarterly Energy Dynamics by Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) released a couple of weeks ago: - connection activities registered by AEMO show 45.6 GW of new capacity (+36% compared to Q3 2023). BESS represents 14.6 GW (+87% vs 2023) ; - 19.6 GW are in Application and 16.2 GW are in Proponent Implementation stages. In these stages, 45% are PV solar and 31% are BESS ; - in Q3, there were 30 projects (5.5GW) progressing through registration (vs 1.8GW in Q3 2023) = 46% being in NSW, 34% in QLD and 20% in VIC - 4.4GW were in the commissioning phase (vs 2.1GW at the end of Q3) 👇link to the full report in pdf format in the comments below [new Grid connections, § 1.3.9]

An announcement for this tender is expected by late 2024, with bidding to follow. The DOE is evaluating the scope of the auction, which may include pilot projects for both fixed and floating offshore wind installations. Initial offshore wind projects are projected to begin commercial operations by 2028. Alberta forecasts exciting developments in the energy sector! The province is set to add 25,173 MW of new generation projects over the next four years. This includes: 🔺11,700 MW of solar 🔺4,248 MW of wind 🔺5,982 MW of storage 🔺3,243 MW of gas Now announced and applied for regulatory approval, these projects represent 84% of Alberta's current total operational capacity of 21,062 MW.
