only a few short reflections after the ABSL Forum Conference, held this year in the stunning city of Porto, Portugal . Here are my three key takeaways: 1. #BusinessServicesSector is #siginficant! This sector is essential to the functioning of any businesses, providing a broad spectrum of enabling services, functions and processes. Much like the engine of a car, it powers business. The sector is valued at approximately 20.5% of the GDP across EU27; 2. #KnowHowHub! Over 35% of the industry professionals deliver highly specialised services, requiring extensive knowledge. It builds a know-how and domain specialization creating the competitive advantage necessary for global success; 3. #Unrealized #MarketStrength: if EU wants to grow and compete with global players from China, India and US, needs to enable European Businesses to become giants at the global scale. Therefore, it is essential to reassess regulations that impede business consolidation and limit incentives for investment in modern technologies; With its intellectual capital and business strength, the EU has what it takes to compete—but it needs to act with greater agility and strategic foresight.
