Where do you get your news? Years ago, I did a media training, one of the key messages was that negative stories get more clicks/sell more papers, so be very conscious of how you answer questions in terms of getting your point across. With this in mind I try to minimise my media use, but since I work in Government Affairs, I need to keep up to date with what is going on in the external world, and I am always looking for ways to optimise this process, ie news sources that provide a comprehensive and minimally biased reporting. In politics there is of course Politico, but I am curious as to how others ensure they stay up to date in the most efficient way. Please share!

Today I received this query… My answer was no, not at all would this be considered bad practice! Send your story to as many news outlets that are relevant. Make sure the press story is relevant and tailored to who you are sending it to; be it relevant in terms of the reporter, the location, the topic. It is best practice to send out your press release to the relevant news outlets at the same time: a news platform will be less inclined to publish a story that was published somewhere else a week ago. The internet today is filled with fake news that journalists just create the information. Most journalists today don't verify the information anymore and if needed create data to support the subject of their articles. A few websites often lie about the information they give to readers in order to entice them to click on the article because it's pay per click. Thus, the more outrageous the title of the article the better. Most of today's internet news have no integrity because they are just one or two people who bought an internet domain name operating from their bedrooms and publishing internet articles. Eighty percent of today's news website I haven't heard before. New ones pop up every day. The best option is to do your own research.

Can't agree more with Anton Harber's sentiments in his article on News24. While technology has revolutionized the delivery of news and information, it does not replace the traditional media. The news on the pending closure of aspects of News24 is hard to swallow qha ke!
