Can't agree more with Anton Harber's sentiments in his article on News24. While technology has revolutionized the delivery of news and information, it does not replace the traditional media. The news on the pending closure of aspects of News24 is hard to swallow qha ke!

What journalists do has immense value. Original writing and reporting is the basis for AI models. For the news business to save itself, we must start with building and owning our own relationships with the communities we serve -- and showing the value of authentic information in the age of AI-generated dross.
"Technology companies aren’t in the business of news. And they shouldn’t be. Publishers have to stop looking to them to rescue the news business. We must start saving ourselves." -- Jessica E. Lessin https://lnkd.in/guT8BjiA

📰 Why Reliable News Isn't Free – And Why It Shouldn't Be In today's world, we're flooded with information, but how much of it is truly reliable? The truth is, we're not getting the quality news we deserve because we're not willing to pay for it. The demand for "cheap" news has driven many media outlets to rely heavily on advertising as their main revenue stream. This has led to a system where sensationalism often trumps accuracy, and agendas take precedence over truth. It's time to change the narrative. Let's support good journalism and pay directly to the journalists and news agencies who are committed to delivering factual, unbiased news. Quality journalism requires resources, time, and effort – and these deserve fair compensation. Remember, "free" often comes with hidden costs. In the end, investing in real news is an investment in a well-informed society. 🌍 What do you think? Let's discuss. #SupportJournalism #QualityNews #RealNewsMatters #NoMoreHype

Given the extensive coverage by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism on the importance of user needs, here is a mini-guide for those who wish to understand what they are! In the Digital News Report 2024, released this week, the User Needs Model 2.0, which we developed in collaboration with Dmitry Shishkin, is used to ask news consumers about their expectations from the media.
