AI Hub for Sustainable Development - What is it?  - UNDP Partnering with Italian Presidency of the G7 this year to set up AI Hub for Sustainable Development What's in it for African enterprises you wonder?  - It will make African enterprises more successful as they embrace AI The key factors to focus on to make it a reality?  1. Datasets - that are robust and accurate - representative of the African markets - leading to accurate and reliable models. 2. AI Talent - sufficient capacity and skillsets in the African ecosystems to power business forward. 3. Compute power - that is affordable and accessible and sustainable in nature (green computing).   4. Enabling ecosystems - policies, laws, regulations and best practises to make the African ecosystems to be innovative and to prosper.

The strength of #multilateralism and public-private sector #partnerships for achieving the #SDGs was at the heart of last week’s G7 Ministerial Meeting on Industry, Tech and Digital.   Artificial Intelligence #AI holds immense potential, and its growth across countries must be #inclusive to ensure no country is left behind. Research estimates that AI technologies could add up to US15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. However, the African continent is projected to benefit the least. Countries must act now to bend this arc, empowering African countries to not just leverage AI, but become active participants and equal partners in its development, governance and use.    This is the vision of the AI Hub for Sustainable Development, which @UNDP and the @G7 Italian Presidency co-designed to accelerate sustainable AI-driven industrial growth in Africa.   The memorandum of understanding signed during the Ministerial on behalf of UNDP, with ITU, the Ministry of Enterprises and Made, and the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic represents our steadfast commitment to global digital cooperation, in particular realizing the vision of the AI Hub and concrete, collective impact.   A flagship of the Italy-Africa Mattei Plan, the AI Hub seeks to address critical gaps in #data, green computing, talent and enabling environments. In this light, I was thrilled to be joined by leaders from African AI companies, who spoke to the challenges and opportunities of unlocking Africa’s AI potential and the critical role of the AI Hub as a catalyst.   In this pivotal moment of the Global Digital Compact, which was recently adopted by 193 countries during the UN’s General Assembly, it is clear that fostering innovative partnerships across the digital ecosystem is crucial for meeting the needs of the most marginalized and closing the digital divide.   The AI revolution in Africa is already underway — the call to action is for global digital cooperation to learn and grow together with African countries as equal partners, and drive strategic investments in AI to deliver meaningful impact for everyone, all the way to the last mile!
