#EnergyEfficiency and #RenewableEnergy are critical instruments for ensuring #EnergySecurity, decarbonizing the economies in the Eastern Partnership countries, and creating new and better employment opportunities. Access to green upskilling, removing barriers for women and young people in male-dominated #energy and #construction industries, and creating a conducive ecosystem for businesses to benefit from the greener energy solutions are among the key topics for RECONOMY in #EaP and #WB6.
Today, #RECONOMY brought together like-minded changemakers of the #EasternPartnership region to Yerevan, Armenia, to jointly discuss challenges and seize opportunities to unlocking the transformative power of #energyefficiency and #renewableenergy in the construction and renovation sector. 🏗️☀️ This regional hybrid event wasn't just a meeting of minds but a catalyst for action, paving the way for investment in sustainable construction and renovation. Together, we're building a greener future, one step at a time. 💼🌿 For those who couldn’t join us live, we’ve got you covered. African Innovation Drives Sustainable Mobility! 🏍️⚡ An incredible 6000 km journey has begun: A solar-powered electric motorcycle, designed and built in Africa, is making its way from Nairobi to Stellenbosch! In a collaboration between Stellenbosch University and Roam in Nairobi, the Roam Air electric motorcycle is being put to the test in real African conditions. This project is showcasing the feasibility of electric mobility powered by green energy, and promoting local manufacturing and job creation in Africa, while also addressing urban pollution and health concerns - brilliant! This groundbreaking expedition not only demonstrates African ingenuity but also paves the way for sustainable urban mobility solutions across the continent. As Prof. MJ (Thinus) Booysen of Stellenbosch University's Electric Mobility Lab notes, "We're trying to say 'Hey, hang on, there is an alternative way to do this and to do it with green energy,' so that we don't kill our grids and so that we're not dependent on dirty energy." Read the full article here 👉https://lnkd.in/deHpMP6i We, as Zero Carbon Charge, are attending the Stellenbosch University Electric Mobility Day on the 18th of October to celebrate this project among many others. Watch this space to find out more! Let's celebrate this milestone in African innovation and sustainable transport! 🎉🌱 #AfricanInnovation #SustainableMobility #ElectricVehicles #GreenEnergy #AfricanCollaboration #solarpower #transport #stellenboschelectricmobilityday

🚲 Cenex partnered with The World Bank to conduct a study to improve electric last-mile connectivity in Rwanda, focusing on the city of Kigali. The study delved into the potential of electric motorbike taxis (e-motos) and e-bikes to overcome accessibility and equity challenges in transportation. By integrating these electric micro-mobility solutions into Kigali's public transport system, the study sought to provide sustainable and inclusive transportation options for underserved communities, including the elderly, women with children, low-income youth, and individuals with disabilities. Our teams conducted a thorough analysis, assessing market conditions, electricity infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks to identify viable business models for both private and public sectors. The findings highlighted significant benefits, such as improved air quality, better connectivity, and lower costs. 💡 The study's recommendations are leading the way for Kigali's expansion of e-motos and e-bike sharing schemes, signifying advancement in decarbonising transport in Rwanda. Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania, faces significant transportation challenges due to its rapidly growing population and increasing traffic congestion. The city’s public #transportation system, which includes BRT, minibuses, and three-wheelers, struggles to accommodate the needs of its residents. Electrifying three-wheelers can help alleviate some of these challenges by reducing emissions, improving air quality, and contributing to the city’s goal of achieving sustainable development The electrification of three-wheelers providing feeder services to BRT system in #DarEsSalaam by SOLUTIONSPlus is a promising initiative that has the potential to significantly improve the city’s transportation system. By converting these vehicles to #Electric power, the project will help to reduce #AirPollution, lower operating costs, and enhance mobility for residents. Additionally, the project will contribute to economic development by creating job opportunities in the #ElectricVehicle sector Thanks to Urban Electric Mobility Initiative (UEMI) and the entire #SOLUTIONSplus team for supporting this initiative and enabling #Tanzania to join the global community in promoting #EcoFriendly transportation solutions. As a member of the jury, it is important for me to be close to community initiatives that deal with relevant topics for Latvia. The range of questions can be the widest. Apply for the status of a Smart Village until midnight today. European commision: The emerging concept of Smart Villages refers to rural areas and communities which build on their existing strengths and assets as well as on developing new opportunities. In Smart Villages traditional and new networks and services are enhanced by means of digital, telecommunication technologies, innovations and the better use of knowledge, for the benefit of inhabitants and businesses. Digital technologies and innovations may support quality of life, higher standard of living, public services for citizens, better use of resources, less impact on the environment, and new opportunities for rural value chains in terms of products and improved processes. The concept of Smart Villages does not propose a one-size-fits-all solution. It is territorially sensitive, based on the needs and potentials of the respective territory and strategy-led, supported by new or existing territorial strategies. #ViedaisCiems #SmartVillages #innovation
