St. Louis has developed a comprehensive regional plan including some sustainability initiatives using funds from the Rams settlement! ♻ 💰 "The County’s reported share of the funds is around $169 million. With the bill signed, St. Louis County can move forward with a comprehensive plan to promote long-term sustainability. The plan is known as STLCO 2050. Leaders are looking to outline priorities for the next 25 years. The plan will address land use, infrastructure, housing, transportation, parks and other factors that contribute to economic growth and environmental preservation." https://lnkd.in/gY2_Tymh Please note that, contrary to the title of this article, the bill is not a Climate Action Plan and was misnamed here as such.

I am sharing the final report for the project I am leading through the ENRICH Project entitled “Climate Change Preparedness in Black Communities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area: A Capacity Building Project”. I would like to thank the McConnell Foundation for funding this project. I would also like to thank my project staff and project partners the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists and the Toronto Environmental Alliance for supporting this project. The project centered around workshops on climate change preparedness in Black communities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. Workshops were held in Hamilton (2), Scarborough, Brampton, and North York. The aim of the workshops was to build on the expertise and lived experiences within Black communities to increase awareness about the unique impacts of climate change on Black communities and identify how to support specific community needs and priorities in the face of climate crises. The project has several objectives: 1) Support capacity-building and collective resilience through hands-on workshops in five areas of the GTHA. 2) Increase the involvement of Black communities in discussions around climate and environmental action. 3) Identify and support specific community needs and priorities in facing climate crises. 4) Connect community members with each other, Black community spaces, Black-led organizations, local environmental and climate justice organizations, and climate change experts to maintain community engagement and organization beyond the project. Next Steps: developing a policy brief for each community; developing a climate resilience community plan for each community; connecting workshop participants to new and existing community capacity-building projects related to climate change being undertaken by the City of Hamilton, the City of Toronto. https://lnkd.in/g8HpsUCg

With a change coming in Washington DC, NY must lead on climate. We are urging Gov. Kathy Hochul to advance a cap and invest program to reduce climate emissions, improve affordability, and invest in programs and infrastructure projects that cut pollution, protect the environment and improve public health. Read my op-ed below
In this excellent op-ed in the Times Union, NYLCV President Julie Tighe advocates for a cap-and-invest program in New York: “The program, which will reinvest program revenue into clean energy and resilient infrastructure and put money back into consumers’ pockets, will be the state’s the most powerful tool to combat climate change, safeguard clean air and water, and protect New Yorkers from pollution-related illnesses."
Commentary: Cap-and-invest program will be powerful weapon in fight against climate change

"Stay connected, make it personal, hurry towards a better world but don’t forget to laugh on the way." What a privilege it has been to listen to Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights at the latest Women in Infrastructure (WIN) Event on ‘Climate Justice: that time is now’. Some of the points raised throughout the discussion highlighted the need for feminist solutions to men-made problems and how we can learn a lot from women-led movements, which are typically non-hierarchical, problem-solving, and #inclusive. To tackle #climatechange in a timely manner, we need #internationalcollaboration, developing global solutions applied nationally, and fostering connections and green practices at all levels. By making this crisis "personal", we are actively imagining and hurrying towards the version of the world we want to live in. A massive shout-out to WIN for organising this inspirational event and to KPMG Ireland and RWE for the sponsorship. She explores the necessity of bills that would establish an Office of Resilience and enhance stormwater management, which are crucial for combatting climate change-fueled challenges. She also emphasizes the necessity of integrating WEDG® (Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines) Verification for city waterfront projects to bolster resilience and protect economic futures. Read more about the actionable steps leaders must take to confront climate change head-on and safeguard our communities. Dive in deeper here: https://lnkd.in/dry6sUUT

We're reflecting on these powerful words from Eban Goldstein from the Centre for Environmental Policy. As a group we work to mobilise the parent voice and call for the solutions we so desperately need. Many PFF members are completely new to climate work, and find their feet through the community we are building. They find their voice and build confidence to call for climate solutions by drawing on the support and training we offer. It's a time of courage, imagination, and acting together. Tomorrow is too late to tackle the climate crisis. We're here to do it with parents and carers, today.
