"My health, my right" is the theme of this year’s World Health Day, focusing on championing every person's right to quality healthcare services, safe drinking water, decent living conditions, and good nutrition. Facts: At least 4.5 billion people were not covered by essential health services in 2021, and as many as 8.4 million deaths are attributed to poor quality care each year in low and middle-income countries (WHO Council on the Economics of Health). Also fact: Organizations are working with communities to improve these situations. A group in the Democratic Republic of Congo is training community health workers to bring treatment to far-off areas. An organization in Perú is ensuring well-rounded and tailored health support for underserved families and children. Many more are offering access to mental health services, nutritious food, and treatment of illnesses around the world. We have the pleasure of working with some of them and witness the care and commitment of their teams. They make a day like today so much more meaningful. Health is a human right, not a privilege. Here’s to a world where everyone has access to the healthcare support that they need. #WorldHealthDay #HealthForAll #MyHealthMyRight #SmarterGood #Changemakers #PeopleOfPurpose #dogood #SocialJustice #Equality #SDG3 #SDG6

World Health Day (April 7), 2024 Today, as we celebrate World Health Day 2024, let us reaffirm the fundamental truth that health is not just a privilege but a fundamental human right. This year, under the theme: My Health, My Right, we advocate for universal access to healthcare, empowering people with and without disabilities to take charge of their well-being. We recall World Health Day 2023, that Climate change and health are closely interlinked, and that beyond physical health, climate change also has a significant negative impact on people’s mental health and well-being. In a world where disparities in healthcare access persist, let us strive for equity and inclusivity in health services. Every person, regardless of their background, deserves the right to quality healthcare, preventive measures, and treatment. On this day, let us pledge to: 01. Advocate for equal access to healthcare for all; 02. Promote healthy lifestyles and preventive care; and 03. Stand in solidarity with marginalized and vulnerable communities. Together, we can build a healthier, more equitable world for everyone. Today, I witnessed a beautiful rainbow right outside my house, and it got me thinking about the deeper connections between this natural phenomenon and health equity. Rainbows are formed when sunlight refracts through raindrops, creating a spectrum of colors that remind us of diversity and beauty. Similarly, health equity is about recognizing and valuing the diverse needs of different communities to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to achieve their best health. Just as a rainbow encompasses various colors, health equity acknowledges the diverse factors—like socioeconomic status, race, and access to healthcare—that affect health outcomes. The rainbow also symbolizes hope. In the context of health equity, it serves as a reminder that, despite the barriers many face, there is a possibility for change and improvement. Advocacy for equitable health policies can be our bridge to a healthier society, where everyone has the resources and support they need. Just as every color of the rainbow is essential to its beauty, every individual matters in the pursuit of health equity. Let’s celebrate our differences and work together to ensure that everyone can experience their own "rainbow" of health and well-being. 🌈#HealthEquity #Diversity #Hope

🚨 Loneliness Awareness Week 🚨 Loneliness is a critical issue and is recognised as a public health priority in many countries around the world. However, despite its prevalence, loneliness isn’t widely understood or spoken about in Australia. Loneliness Awareness Week (held annually in the first week of August) shines a spotlight on the shared experience of loneliness. This week, we call on all Australians—individuals, communities, workplaces, educational institutions, and the government—to take action to reduce loneliness and create more opportunities for meaningful social connection. At LCMS, we believe in inclusivity, equality, respect, collaboration, authenticity, and reliability. Let's embody these values and work together to foster a society where everyone feels connected and valued. 💛 #LonelinessAwarenessWeekAU #EndingLonelinessTogether #ConnectionMatters #LCMSValues #Inclusivity #Equality #Respect #CommunitySupport #EndLoneliness Ending Loneliness Together

Sunday 07 April was #WorldHealthDay. At the WHO Collaborating Centre for Public Health Education and Training, Imperial College London we join Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and the World Health Organization to call on all people to demand #MyHealthMyRight! for people living with disabilities. "Human rights are universal rights of all human beings, regardless of race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. The right to health and other health-related human rights are legally binding commitments enshrined in international human rights instruments. WHO’s Constitution also recognizes the right to health. Every human being has the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health. Countries have a legal obligation to develop and implement legislation and policies that guarantee universal access to quality health services and address the root causes of health disparities, including poverty, stigma and discrimination. The right to health is indivisible from other human rights, including the rights to education, participation, food, housing, work and information. Universal health coverage (UHC) grounded in primary health care helps countries realize the right to health by ensuring all people have affordable, equitable access to health services." - World Health Organization #uhc #sdg #sdgs #sdg3 #healthpromotion #healthforall #globalhealth #reasonableadjustments #disability #equality #DisabilityInclusion #DisabilityAwareness #DiversityMatters #DiversityAndInclusion #DiversityEquityInclusion #DifferentNotLess

🌟Celebrating Juneteenth: A Call to Action in Healthcare🌟 On Juneteenth, we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States & reflect on the progress we've made towards equality. This day is not just a historical milestone; it’s a reminder of the work that still needs to be done to achieve true equity, especially in healthcare. Health disparities affect communities of color disproportionately. From higher maternal mortality rates to unequal access to mental health services, systemic racism persists. 🏥🩺 As healthcare professionals & advocates, we must commit to creating a more inclusive & equitable system. This means: - Investing in community health programs 🏘️ - Supporting policies that address social determinants of health 📜 - Promoting diversity within the healthcare workforce 🌍 Acknowledging these disparities & actively working to eliminate them, we honor the spirit of Juneteenth and move closer to a future where everyone can live a healthy life. 💚✨ Let’s use Juneteenth as a catalyst for change, ensuring that our healthcare system serves all individuals with compassion, respect, & fairness. Together, we make a difference. #Juneteenth #HealthcareEquity #HealthJustice #Inclusion 🖤❤️💚

World Health Summit: humbled to have opened the 1st session entirely dedicated to #Health #Equity for #Persons with #Disabilities to Achieve Health for All A huge thank to co-hosting organizations Sightsavers, International Disability and Development Consortium, Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. Special Olympics, The Missing Billion, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London I hope this will not be the last and that health equity for persons with disabilities will be featured in future WHS. This is important, because we know that compared to the general population, persons with disabilities die up to 20 years earlier and have poorer health due to unjust and avoidable factors But the health sector is not addressing these health #inequities and persons with disabilities are left behind as we show in our Global report on health inequities for persons with disabilities. The good news is that we know what to do and we have already outlined it in the Global report Targeted, disability-#inclusive actions, as part of our primary health care #PHC efforts, and as part of every country’s journey towards universal health coverage #UHC is what is needed. Advancing disability #inclusion in the health sector is not a choice anymore There are 1.3 billion people with significant disability in the world Investing in disability inclusion in the health sector has benefits for the economy and society World Health Organization estimates that every 1 US $ spent on disability-inclusive noncommunicable disease #NCDs #prevention and #care, yields 10 US$ of increases in #healthy #life years and #human #capital WHO is moving the disability inclusion agenda forward in 3 keyways 👍 Bringing stakeholders together under a common vision, for coordinated action towards health equity for persons with disabilities. This will be done through our new Global Health Equity and Disability Platform, to be launched in 2025. The last 2 days, we held the first global consultation meeting with experts working in the disability and health space 👍 Mainstreaming disability in our own house, through the implementation of the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy across our business operations and technical programmes 👍 Supporting Ministries of Health to develop national action plans to advance disability inclusion in the health sector through the WHO Disability Inclusion Guide for Action, a planning tool that will be launched soon 📌 Every stakeholder has a role. And listening to, and acting on, the voices of people with disabilities is fundamental. I thank the International Disability Alliance for its close collaboration with us. The heavy lifting on health equity for persons with disabilities should not be left to the NGO sector only. If we want to achieve health for all, we must prioritize health equity for persons with disabilities as part of the #globalhealth agenda Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Alarcos Cieza, Guy Fones, Darryl Barrett

We appreciate your insightful remarks. Your insights on the subject matter are particularly valuable. The need to address health equity is pressing worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). I am grateful for your thorough response to my queries regarding health equity in LMICs, where disability rates are high and resources are limited. @IE_OlderPersons @KylieShaeOAM @HabenGirma @temisrael @PascalBijleveld @alabriqu @wizara_afyatz @_atscale
