American Foreign Service Association’s Post

On November 3, 1961, President Kennedy signed the Foreign Assistance Act into law and created the U.S. Agency for International Development. Today, USAID is one of the biggest and most respected aid agencies in the world. Wishing all our members, friends, and colleagues at USAID a happy 63rd anniversary!

Very proud that my first assignment as a State Department Foreign Service Officer was for 4 years as a USAID Rural Development Advisor in the Mekong Delta in 1968 just as IR 8 "miracle rice" was being introduced. I was a "foot soldier in the Green Revolution."
